Sen. McCain remained strong in his position that Iraqi security is vital to American security. The senator said that if America fails, “we will see Iraq become a center for al Qaeda, chaos, genocide in the region, and they’ll follow us home.”

It’s long, it’s hard, it’s tough, it’s difficult. Americans are frustrated because of the mishandling of this war. But our national interests — the United States’ national interests are at stake. I believe the Maliki government has got to improve. They’ve got to pass certain laws that we all know about. But we must succeed, and we cannot fail, and I will be the last man standing if necessary.

The Senator got my full attention with this statement. It moved him up to #1 on my list of possibilities

Alot of empty talk if you ask me. Not to mention that his "I'm a big tough guy" pose at the debates just makes him look ridiculous in my view.

I remember the real Sen. McCain, from the 2000 election and before, and what we're seeing now isnt the real McCain. Its some kind of wanna-be-tough-guy robotic version of him, its not him. I remember when he was "straight-talk" McCain, not afraid to answer tough questions. Now he just talks and dances around the issues and doesnt even do it well.

I'm very disappointed in McCain lately. But to answer your question, yes it got my attention, but I wouldnt vote for or support him if you put a gun to my head.

McCain saying that we must succeed sounds like Bush saying we must stay the course. Electing McCain would be like four more years of Bush. McCain states that the war has been mishandled but like any politician offers no solutions.
