It won't get pushed through. Too many Democrats are against it. And it won't be a success. Some of the stuff in it is outrageous. And yes, I know what I'm talking about. I downloaded the bill and I'm reading it for myself.

Nothing would happen to the republicans. On the other hand, the country goes further in to debt.

Instead of "health care reform," President Obama made it clear he is really calling for "health insurance reform" at his primetime news conference Wednesday evening.

He used the phrase five times in his opening statement.

"Even as we rescue this economy from a full-blown crisis, we must rebuild it stronger than before. And health insurance reform is central to that effort," he said.

The White House clearly thinks that reforming health insurance is an easier concept to sell to Congress and the American people than a massive revamping of the health care system.

The prime time news conference in the East Room was not the first time Mr. Obama has used that formulation, but it was the most frequent.

MASSIVE TAXES COMING OUR WAY, MEDICARE AND MEDICAID ARE ALREADY BROKE.

man, it would be a huge blow...but i don't think we'll ever see it...that's why i protest it...because i don't think it's realistic and damages us for him to keep it up. i think there are other ways to revamp healthcare without going balls to the wall socialist. i also think four years is getting wasted and that our economy needs to come first right now. we can play games later but right now we have to cut taxes to reignite the stalled engines here.

bro, everything can be tied to the economy if you start connecting the dots...but if the plane is going to hit the ground, we don't have time to see if there's first aid kits for everybody. the engines must start again.

It would mean....we'll have increasing debt at a faster pace then GDP growth....until our nation collapses.

Sort of like whats about to happen to Britian....and whats happening in California today.

Sooner or later...you have to end ALL social programs....and spend the next 40 years repaying debt.

Theres a balance to 20 years of socialism....its called being really really broke and conservative for the next 20.

When are you going to figure it out that it ties directly into the economy destroying what is left of it. Even some Democrats figured this out but most can't . Obama is a joke

Here is something you need to understand. You are either stupid or making yourself look stupid. The Democrats need zero Republican votes to pass anything. What ever passes they will own.

The fact that they are fighting among themselves has nothing to do with Republicans. Repeating... The Democrats need zero Republican votes to pass anything. Health care reform is definitely needed. If you can't find a way to get government management out of it you are doing it wrong. Does that mean Republicans can do anything about it? No. The Democrats will own what ever is passed. Good or bad. If its bad who has to pay at election time? Democrats. Republicans can do and have to do nothing. I have complete faith that this will be an un American health care reform plan. The general public according to Gallup is 59% against passage of this bill. Good luck.

Your question is moot since health care reform, in its present form, will NEVER be a "sweeping success"

Sure, we need reform but taxing the heck out of people and increasing the deficit to pay for the damn thing isn't the way to do it.

Obama is an arrogant fool and said nothing new last night to convince the 53% that are opposed to his scam!

Okay dude I will answer your question but first we need a few definitions and corrections.

Republicans are not against reforming healthcare, they are against government involvement in healthcare. Big difference. Republicans want to fix healthcare by getting the government out of healthcare as they are the ones that are causing most of the problems. There are some very simple reforms that would get the government out of healthcare more and improve quality, reduce cost, and insure more people. Obama and the Dems have no interest in these things.

So now that's clear lets restate your question. If Obama and the Dems are successful and passing government single payor, mandated, controlled healthcare what will the republicans do? They will take over the house, the senate and the presidency within the next 4 years.

If you mean what if socialism works? Well it never has so if it did work in this case, Obama would be the Saviour so many think he is, and the republicans and all conservatives who thought the free market worked would go away and become public servants working in government jobs. So basically there would be no opposition party and we would all live happily ever after in this fairly tail land you imagine.

It won't become a sweeping success!! Obviously you have not done your homework on the subject!! Read about what it has done to other countries, the people in those countries say that it is terrible and it has basically bankrupt their countries. You will have to wait forever to see a doctor not too mention we will all pay taxes out the ying yang for this so called healthcare. So in the long run people will still not be able to afford healthcare! It will take over a trillion dollars to start the system and millions of people will still not be covered. The country's that have had this system don't have as nearly as many people as we do and if it doesn't work their why in the world would you guys think that it would work here? This is basically going to be implemented for the illegal immigrants, that is Obama's plan. I don't know about you but I have no desire to pay for illegal immigrants and I also say too all of the people that support this foolishness you guys can pay for it yourselves. As for the republicans we will once again sit back and tell you guys, I TOLD YOU SO!! Wake up, Obama and his so called congress buddies are destroying this country. Maybe if people were a little more responsible as far as their eating habits and lack of exercise go we would not have this huge mess right now.

Obama is too bull headed to be transparent and offer bipartisanship.

Obama has an agenda that is not in the best interest of Americans.

Before we can merge the present Healthcare System with a new Healthcare System you have to fix the present Healthcare System first.

Healthcare Services are too High.

Healthcare Insurance is too High.

Prescription Drugs are too High!

Rewards for Malpractice Law Suites are to High.

Taxes are too High.

Fix the aforementioned and we may not need to have a Universal Healthcare Plan.

As things stand the proposed Universal Healthcare Plan will just complicate things more and drive up the costs more.

If that isn't good enough why not take the Healthcare Plan we the people provide an undeserving Congress and expand it to apply to the citizens as well, aren't we good enough?

You are so right. It does tie directly into our economy. A large percentage of people filing for bankruptcy do so because of medical bills, which indirectly effects other types of creditors as well. While these people wipe away their medical debt, they also wipe away all debt. It forces businesses to raise prices to recover that lost income. Healthy people lose less time from work, meaning increased productivity for big and small companies. If health care reform ends up being a huge success, it would just indicate yet again how irrelevant the Republican party is.

This is not reform, it is a new way to control us stupid commoners by the elitists in Washington. Answer these simple questions and you will understand why this health care reform is nonsense. Will anyone in congress the white house or the supreme court have the same healthcare providers as the ones they are trying to push on us?

What crowning success that the government has achieved will this system be modeled after?

Medicare? bankrupt in a few years.

Medicaid? bankrupt soon also.

Social Security? bankrupt soon.

AmTrak? 2 Billion dollars in the hole every year.

The Post office? losing billions every year.

The VA healthcare system? Long waits of weeks to months and substandard care (my stepfather is in it and it sucks).

The universal healthcare system in Hawaii? which was scrapped in a short time due to being a terrible failure.

The universal healthcare system of Massachusetts? which is being sued by the hospitals due to their imminent failure due to cost.

We have the best healthcare system in the world and do not let anyone tell you any different. Would you go to Cuba for healthcare? The moron Michael Moore thinks we should be emulating their system of universal healthcare.

If you want the nonsense these folks are trying to establish, then you are just as uninformed as all the others clamoring for this crap.

If the Liberal/Socialists get what they want then it WILL fail as all Socialist ideas do in the end.

From each according to their abilitys to each according to their needs is what this is all about. Rob from the rich and give to the poor....what happens when the rich run out of money and we are all "the poor"?

Health Care reform is needed~it Obama pulls this off he still has to face

the long long unemployment lines of the usa

jobs are not coming back fast enough to save obama from the very

people who put him in office

I cannot think of a faster way of losing popularity then putting this country

into a full blown depression while fighting wars that he said we would not

be fighting

The US is talking the talk but not walking the walk

immigration (illegals) is killing any quick recovery of the US

who wants to pay even minimum wage when they can get someone

who will work for bare necessities?

So what if they got the best Health Care if you are not working you still

are a statistic of failure

Problem is I don't see the current bill being a success. Is this like the so called 'Stimulus' package as well that had to rushed though otherwise the economy would completely collapse? Sadly the economy didn't get better adn that pork bill has yet to do anything. But it's all right, because he dems and that POTUS know exactly what the problem is with health care.

I think what a lot of people don't like is how rushed the POTUS is to pass this. Why, if it's so great, is he having such a hard time defending it?

There are 2 ways to look at success, if he succeeds in pushing it through it will be a disaster...if he fails to push it through we have succeeded in stopping something that most people don't want in it's present form. Why so many Democrats want reform no matter what it does to this country, 77% of this country that have insurance like their present coverage. It reminds me of when Obama was running his campaign and he said, "We live in the greatest country on earth, help me change it!", he doesn't make much sense.

Health Care Reform? What is the matter with the existing health care that we have in the United States? People are coming here for treatment, from countries they have Free Government Health Care. I don't want my Health Care reduced in quality, and I don't want the Government deciding, after waiting for months, if I will get an operation, that may save my life. It's not about being a Democrat or Republican, it's about the Quality and Quantity of Health Care.

Your right Health care is not a game. $540,000.00 a year is what

my Health care plan runs for my Employees, My business advisors

explain and have layed out the best case scenario under Obama

care. And the worst under Obamacare. Neither one of these scenarios

are worth a damn.

1st of all. With the Public plan Obama is pushing, My care provider

will not be able to compete, Forcing me into a quasi single pay format.

meaning the quality of service will go to hell. Leaving my people

vulnerable and missing work when most needed, Now if you think

this is so damn good. How about you picking up the cost of the

program and I'll let you run this operation.

2nd. Under the Federal Health program. My choice is gone. If I

refuse to go into the Federal public program. Obama and his

minions have me paying a penalty, even though they tell me I

don't have to join the Federal plan.

No matter which way I go I am penalized, So in your best case

scenario explain to me. where My paying for 46 million fools I

don't even or ever care to know is advantagous to me. Or my

business.

We need health care reform and a public option!

We have been trying this for decades, and nothing has happened.

I wish Obama would go around the R's and the Blue dog Dem's, and et it passed under reconciliation..have a long talk again for te blue dog Dems

There are way too many people without health care , and that is running out quickly with Medicare and Medicaid! Something has to be done to cover everyone , especially the ones who have nothing, they should have option to get care that they can afford!!

The R's, f they don't vote on it and vote no, then they can blame everything on the Dems and Obama....

I think it's going to be a race, Flow.

What will cross the finishing line first.

a. Overwhelming debt and higher taxes and a fully insured population waiting in line for their shot at a cure; or

b. A bunch of healthier republicans waiting to fix the mess.

Nothing. They are already as relevant in today's world as the Whigs and the Troies. People are seeing that the reason that government hasn't worked is that it has been run by Republicans for most of the past forty years. They are seeing that the Republicans have brought nothing to the table but obstruction and name-calling. With only about 25% of the people in the country identifying with the Republican party and their obvious lack of ideas and competent leadership they are already irrelevant.

Republicans are not against health care reform just against what the Democrats are pushing because they know it will make our health care system worse and will bankrupt the country.

This bill doesn't even deal at all with the number one cause of the high costs of medical care.

Jill M

Since it will not be the Republicans that pass the legislature needed it doesn't seem like 'anything' will happen to them. If the unemployment rate is 8 percent or under in 2010 and 2012 the Dems will probably win again. If it is, 10 percent or more, the Republicans and Independents will sweep back in.

If the nation succeeds by having humane insurance practices, the people who are against it won't have to continue kissing insurance giants butts anymore. Sure it left a bad taste, but the money they received to continue this crazy medical quandary makes up for selling their soul.

I think if the politicians had the healthcare that so many people have or had! they would be behind making changes. They are selfish pigs. They make me sick. Oh, wait that's right, I am already sick. Don't have many options.

Wish the last jack a** would have let us work on stem cells so I could fix my heart and liver.

Running out of time, and ticked off about it. Thanks for the rant.

We need healthcare reform because thousands die with the lack of healthcare. We are too strong a nation to have this happen to anyone least of all thousands who die without healthcare, and those that go bankrupt paying for it should they become sick. We need Obama to pass through health care reform for sure.

Then immigration reform can happen. You have to have insurance to play the American game. Republicans could participate in the immigration reform without being perceived as bigots against "wise latinas".

Then we could take a look at outsourcing. Is it fair that an American business flees the country to hire uninsured workers?
