Well to hear Obama talk running his campaign for 19 months is the experience he will be bringing to the Oval Office, but the last time I checked applying for a job does not qualify you to perform the job.

So to answer you question Sarah Palin ran a small business was a member of the PTA, Mayor of her home town (for 12 years), Sat on the Board for the oil commission in Alaska, and was the Governor of Alaska for 20 months.

I also heard the Obama campaign say 18 million people (or as I call them sheeple) voted for him so that qualifies him. But I would like to point out that was 18 million Dimocrats no republicans had a say in that we were busy voting for our candidate. And this point clearly leaves out that fact another equal 18 million people voted against him. So if 18 for Obama votes gives him his experience the other 18 million negate it!!!!!!

Well, let's see. Palin is the governor of the only state which borders 2 foreign countries. Since she has border issues with both - fishing encroachment with Russia and various sundry issues with Canada - it turns out that she actually has experience in international relations. She has run a town and she has run a state. She has been on a city council. She has been held accountable. Obama, on the other hand, has been on the boards of various socialist oriented foundations. He has been in a state legislature, and he has been a US senator for a couple of years. None of these are leadership positions and the level of accountability is very low in all the positions he has held. He was also a community organizer, a position with exactly zero accountability. The Obama camp says Obama now has 18+ months of running a campaign. That's a stretch. The campaign manager actually runs the campaign. He has no international relations experience with the exception of campaigning for a marxist running for the prime minister position in Kenya, who lost the election miserably.

But comparing Palin to Obama is not fair because Palin is a VP candidate while Obama is a presidential candidate. The real comparison is between Palin and OBiden. OBiden has virtually no experience as an executive. But he does have international relations experience. I don't think he wants anyone to dig too deep into it, though. For instance, OBiden and his wife managed to really piss off the entire Saudi delegation on one occasion. On several other occasions, he has had to pull his foot out of his mouth.

But in the end, it doesn't really matter. We are screwed either way if the major parties continue to run the country.

It all depends on whether you are thinking FOR YOURSELF or repeating the handouts.

If her speech the other night, full of hatred, ridicule, etc is a sample of how she got elected Gov.. then I don't count Gov as a qualification. She "got rid of the good old boys" is an emotional statement, which can mean that she really cleared out corruption. It ALSO can mean that she has no ability at all to work with experienced politicians, or compromise on anything. Compromise is not always a dirty word. Her own party did not support her in Alaska for Gov.

As for her mayor experience.. I am rolling with laughter on that. The town has MAYBE 8000 persons (that is total persons, not registered voters), it was a part time job, and the fact is that she left that job with the town in debt. By that standard.. every mayor in the country is "qualified" to run the US.

The "leads the Natl Guard" thing is also a joke. She can order the Natl Guard to act on state emergencies only. Outside the state, they are under Federal control.

Obama has "done nothing" is about the most empty statement I have ever heard in my life. If you use that as a comparison.. JFK did "nothing". After all, he was "only" a Senator, not a Gov or mayor of anything.

The entire purpose of the media/ press is to investigate and find factual information. Does it scare the crap out of you, that Palin was offered as candidate, and in less than 3 days, the GOP is snapping at the press, and saying that they REFUSE to answer any more questions about how Palin was vetted and evaluated? IF SHE WAS researched, checked, etc.. the GOP should be frothing at the mouth to provide that info. In depth.. NOT "we did a good job checking her out, now shut up and accept our word for it".

The GOP says that she has more leadership experience than Obama. Sorry.. I think I will ask questions and determine this for myself.

There is no doubt that Sarah Palin has more executive and therefore leadership experience than Obama. By defintion, the Governer of a state is the Chief Executive and Commander-in-Chief of the National Guard.

As Governor Palin was responsible for managing a budget of over $11 Billion, and an organization of 10's of thousands. He signed bills into law and vetoed bad legislation. She did something right for Alaskans, who gave her an 80% approval rating.
2008-09-06 12:47:55 UTC
Commander in Chief of the Alaska National Guard? In name only. She does not command the guard. She can request their assistance in emergencies, but she is not the one who decides how many to send to Iraq.

So, what other duties might a mayor and governor be expected to do? Tax and spend. Sarah knows how to tax--on her watch Alaskan taxes rose dramatically. She knows how to spend as well, and Alaska, for all its oil wealth, is a welfare state. For every federal tax dollar that comes FROM Alaska, $1.84 goes BACK TO Alaska from the fed. It's the lower 48 states that support Alaska.

Governors and mayors also hire and fire. Palin has often required loyalty tests from her employees. She requires letters of resignation from each person, fires the people she perceives as having different political affiliations, and keeps the rest on file and as leverage.

Obama has much more practical experience, and he has demonstrated it by running a flawless campaign that spends far more money in a month that Palin's town spent in a year. He manages an organization of 2400 people, and he built that organization from scratch.

Obama raised the money to meet the payroll AND run a campaign. He didn't beg for tax dollars or government assistance to make this campaign work.

So, if you measure executive duties, such as raising and spending money, hiring and firing and commanding an army of volunteers, Obama has far more experience and is a more effective leader.

Here is a question you might consider carefully: When a new leader comes into office he or she brings people to run the country. Just who would Palin bring with her, and if her benefactor kicks the bucket in 2009, would she lead, or follow? Who would guide her? McCain's campaign is full of lobbyists. Would they then come to power?

SARAH PALIN definately. Obama has never voted for anything just voted present. After seeing the RNC on TV she has some gonads--I loved her she really gave it back to the media she was just so straightforward on everything. Obama is just another "rock star"

And by the way Palin was not governor of a itsy bitsy small town like the comment above she was mayor of a small town then GOVERNOR OF ALASKA

Can we stop playing games? Palin was part of the AIP or the Alaska Independence Party. As such, she agrees with me that Alaska and Hawaii are two states that experience in state government means nothing because both states are different than the rest of America.

she's been in only two years. Can you really say that this country wouldn't be in trouble if this woman ever became POTUS?

This is a reckless disregard for the good of the nation. It shows what's wrong with a maverick. This is only gender politics in a win at all cost strategy, but that disqualifies McSame, too.

Palin, she's been a mayor and is curently a Governor. Obama was in the senate for less that 6 months and started running for President, basically he's been an absentee senator. But you must compare the experience of Obama to McCain, these are the 2 guys running for president.

Palin.

Obama, is nothing, done nothing, will do nothing (but self promotion).

Palin, Commander in Chief of the Alaska National Guard.

Palin, she has been responsible for balancing budgets at the town and state level.

She has worked in the executive branch of government.

She is the commander of Alaska National Guard, when they are deployed for national duties the governor gives up their role to the commander in chief but she deployed helicopters and troops to help in hurricane relief when asked by another governor.

She has been part owner in small businesses.

She has the power of veto.

A leader is someone who leads and is responsible to make decisions.

Senators make decisions to vote yes or no. Some of them initiate a bill to vote on. Obama has been there 3 years and campaigning for 2years.

Mayors and Governors lead.

she was mayor of a town in Alaska!

Obama has done nothing like that in his life.

The Alaska National Guard commander said Gov. Sara has been the most active Govenor as long as he has been serving. That she came to Iraq and asked what did they need. She calls and offers her troops every time there is a national disaster in the country. She asked to go to Iraq her 2nd week in office.

She went back got communities to send things for them.

I think she is a good leader because she got into politics to change things. There is no sign she does it for money, power of political office.

I am sure she is not perfect, but

After 40 years of debating Sara got a pipeline deal done in weeks, not years.

My honest opinion of Obama is he started out with good intentions to help people, he took political steps to get more power, and I now I think he has bought into the Democratic party, voting 97% of the time with them.

I don't think Obama has lead anything.
2008-09-06 12:31:02 UTC
When I look at both of these candidates I am inspired and they both have charisma and spread hope. Hope is a good thing, but when I look for leadership, I am more impressed with Mccain and Biden.

Well they have both had about the same number of years of experience. However, being a governor, which is like a small scale version of President, is vastly superior to a Senator.

Senators (and no offense is intended) are part of a group; they don't (often) lead anything.

Governors oversee an entire population, operate in a legislative/executive/judicial system and oversee individual towns, cities and counties, each of whom has smaller versions of the same government.

That is vastly better experience to be in the Presidential race.

To my friend "Be objective, tell it like it is" who answered above and stated (the obvious) that Chicago has more people than Alaska. That is true, and your argument would hold water IF Obama had been Mayor of Chicago. He was, however, ONLY a community organizer. That's hardly RUNNING the city of Chicago.

Obama, a community leader, a member of the state legislature, a US Senator and most importantly has lead millions of Americans into voting for him and his vision of what America can be.

I understand that Palin has two years as governor and that is very impressive, but here in PA the mayor of a town of 7000 is not even a full time job.

OBAMA!!

SARAH PALIN HAS BAD VIEWS LIKE ANTI-ABORTION AND TEACHING EVOLUTION IN SCHOOLS!!! (WHAT HAPPENED TO SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE?) SHE SHOULD ALSO CONCENTRATE ON RAISING HER BABY!!! A CHILD WITH DOWN SYNDROME TAKES MORE EFFORT TO RAISE. SHE ALSO HAS TO CRITICIZE AND CALL OBAMA NAMES LIKE A 10 YEAR OLD TO MAKE HERSELF LOOK GOOD!!!

OBAMA HAS HELPED MAKE DECISIONS FOR THE COUNTRY AS A SENATOR. SHE'S ONLY MADE DECISIONS FOR HER STATE WHICH IS ALASKA AND HAS MUCH DIFFERENT PROBLEMS THAN DOWN SOUTH HERE IN THE REST OF THE STATES!

DON'T VOTE FOR MCCAIN AND PALIN BECAUSE MCCAIN WILL PROBABLY DIE IN OFFICE AND PALIN WILL BE OUR PRESIDENT! AHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What difference does it make it's not like you train from birth how to be president. Life experience and people you know help shape and prepare you to make decisions in life. People said Clinton wasn't experienced yet he ran for two terms. Bush doesn't have a clue whats going on yet he served for two terms!!

OBAMA

28% on profit from ALL home sales. (How does this affect you? If you sell your home and make a profit, you will pay 28% of your gain on taxes. If you are heading toward retirement and would like to down-size your home or move into a retirement community, 28% of the money you make from your home will go to taxes. This proposal will adversely affect the elderly who are counting on the income from their homes as part of their retirement income.)

DIVIDEND TAX

MCCAIN

15% (no change)

OBAMA

39.6% - (How will this affect you? If you have any money invested in stock market, IRA, mutual funds, college funds, life insurance, retirement accounts, or anything that pays or reinvests dividends, you will now be paying nearly 40% of the money earned on taxes if Obama becomes president. The experts predict that 'Higher tax rates on dividends and capital gains would crash the stock market, yet do absolutely nothing to cut the deficit.')

Many families have lost businesses, farms, ranches, and homes that have been in their families for generations because they could not afford the inheritance tax. Those willing their assets to loved ones will only lose them to these taxes.

NEW TAXES PROPOSED BY OBAMA

New government taxes proposed on homes that are more than 2400 square feet. New gasoline taxes (as if gas weren't high enough already) New taxes on natural resources consumption (heating gas, water, electricity) New taxes on retirement accounts, and last but not least....New taxes to pay for socialized medicine so we can receive the same level of medical care as other third-world countries!!!

in Alaska within her own party and the Democratic Party

she ran in elections and won and removed the culprits

Neither would be where they are if they didn't have leadership ability and experience. However, Obama has been in public service for over 20 years.

Don't be fooled by the McCain supporters who claim that being governor of Alaska for two years and major of a town the size of a city highschool counts as "more" experience.

Interesting how everyone only mentions Obama community service experience which is only how he "started".

Uh..didn't Sarah start in the PTA. Oh yeah, that's more significant. (sarcasm)

Obama record

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/2/20/...

Obama passed legislation with Republican Senator Jim Talent to give gas stations a tax credit for installing E85 ethanol refueling pumps. The tax credit covers 30 percent of the costs of switching one or more traditional petroleum pumps to E85, which is an 85 percent ethanol/15 percent gasoline blend.

-After a number of inmates on death row were found innocent, Senator Obama worked with law enforcement officials to require the videotaping of interrogations and confessions in all capital cases.

-His first law was passed with Republican Tom Coburn, a measure to rebuild trust in government by allowing every American to go online and see how and where every dime of their tax dollars is spent.

-Obama created the Illinois Earned Income Tax Credit for low-income working families in 2000 and successfully sponsored a measure to make the credit permanent in 2003. The law offered about $105 million in tax relief over three years.

-Obama joined forces with former U.S. Sen. Paul Simon (D-IL) to pass the toughest campaign finance law in Illinois history. The legislation banned the personal use of campaign money by Illinois legislators and banned gifts from lobbyists. Before the law was passed, one organization ranked Illinois worst among 50 states for its campaign finance regulations.

-As a member of the Veterans' Affairs Committee, Senator Obama has fought to help Illinois veterans get the disability pay they were promised, while working to prepare the VA for the return of the thousands of veterans who will need care after Iraq and Afghanistan.

-He traveled to Russia with Republican Dick Lugar to begin a new generation of non-proliferation efforts designed to find and secure deadly weapons around the world.

-Obama has been a leading advocate for protecting the right to vote, helping to reauthorize the Voting Rights Act and leading the opposition against discriminatory barriers to voting.

- In the U.S. Senate, Obama introduced the STOP FRAUD Act to increase penalties for mortgage fraud and provide more protections for low-income homebuyers, well before the current subprime crisis began.

-Obama sponsored legislation to combat predatory payday loans, and he also was credited with lobbied the state to more closely regulate some of the most egregious predatory lending practices.

-Barack Obama introduced the Patriot Employer Act of 2007 to provide a tax credit to companies that maintain or increase the number of full-time workers in America relative to those outside the US; maintain their corporate headquarters in America; pay decent wages; prepare workers for retirement; provide health insurance; and support employees who serve in the military.

-Obama worked to pass a number of laws in Illinois and Washington to improve the health of women. His accomplishments include creating a task force on cervical cancer, providing greater access to breast and cervical cancer screenings, and helping improve prenatal and premature birth services.

-Obama has introduced and helped pass bipartisan legislation to limit the abuse of no-bid federal contracts.

-Obama and Senator Feingold (D-WI) took on both parties and proposed ethics legislation that was described as the "gold standard" for reform. It was because of their leadership that ending subsidized corporate jet travel, mandating disclosure of lobbyists' bundling of contributions, and enacting strong new restrictions of lobbyist-sponsored trips became part of the final ethics bill that was signed into law.
