Libertarism is about limited government, paying less taxes and providing the private market with no restrictions or regulations. Their solution is let the private market take care of it.
1) With no medicare, medicaid, social security, no government run healthcare...what happens when you're unemployed, broke and have cancer? Since there is no medicaid, you will be left to die.
2) Without regulations, who will make sure that plane you just took was inspected properly for any malfunctions, failures, or problems if there is no FAA? Who will make sure your drinking water is clean, food you eat is safe, air you breathe isn't polluted without the EPA. Who will help you after a large hurricane, earthquake, nuclear power plant disaster, tsunami without FEMA?
3) If the Gold Standard is implimented, what will happen in a recession if the government or a central bank can't infuse money into the economy to prevent a Depression? No other industrialized country uses the gold standard. Though you have seen a growth during the Recession, you are seeing the value of gold go down now that the economy is picking up.
4) The government should be able to tell you and businesses what to do and not to do. Sounds bad huh? But without the Civil Rights act or the Americans with Disabilities Act, businesses could discriminate against ppl of color, ppl who are handicap. We need child labor laws, the 40 hour work week, the freedom to unionize and other benefits we take for granite.
5) Americans should have the right to education. You eliminate the Dept of Education and privitize education, how will poor or middle class children learn if they can't afford an education? Yes the Dept of Educ is bloated and needs to be reformed, but not thrown out completely!
6) You shouldn't have to pay fluctuating tolls for roads and bridges because our infrastructure is completely privitized. Again, how will the poor or middle class afford paying extra tolls trying to get to work. Look at Private Insurance companies, look what a bang up job they've done with premiums and rates going up every year and insurance companies kicking off patients with pre-existing conditions. Something you should be applauding Obama for getting rid of. Our healthcare system is a mess and it will eventually fail.
7) If you are raped and do not want to keep the baby, you shuold have the choice to have an abortion and have access to contraception and women's healthcare if you are poor. If a woman cannot afford a baby and wants an abortion, who am I or YOU to say she can't have one. It's her choice. Unless you are the father or mother and/or plan on paying on raising the baby, you have no say.
Libertarism is ideology that tries to solve a lot of our problems and in some cases...they would work! I agree with Libertarism when it comes to legalizing drugs. Hell, i say, legalize them, tax them and regulate them! Stop wasting tax money! Ending our occupations all over the world, stop nation building! Legalizing gay marriage. I'm not gay, but how does it affect me if two dudes or gals want to marry? Shouldn't they be afforded the same chance to see their marriage fail like the rest of us? :)
