Question:
If the Republicans Lose, what will happen to the Party?

If the Republicans lose this election, what's going to happen with the party? Their image is destroyed by Bush's unpopularity and there's this visible rift in the party between the Palin Conservatives and McCain right leaning Moderates.

What do you believe the fate of the party will be?

Carter destroyed the Dems. They entered a very astute program of "re-branding" before Clinton started his bid. While the Dems were previously tarred with the "Billy Bob" brush during Carter times, Clintons rebranded the Dems as the party of cool, young professionals. This worked well.

The Republicans will have to do the same. They will have to rebrand and some of that is starting as we speak. If they re-brand carefully, they will have no problem in the next cycle.

Remember, many aren't voting FOR Obama but rather AGAINST Bush/McCain. Rebranding will be essential.

If they lose, they will sit outside of the Samuel 'Joe the Plumber' Wurzelbacher's of the United States' houses and beg to mow the lawn, trim the hedges, and paint the house (using immigrant labor, of course). They'll continue to say, "Joe, we're witcha!" all the time giving the CEO's a nod and a wink. Of course, they're going to excommunicate John McCain, Joe Lieberman, and any Republican that has run away from the brand this political season.

Kinder, gentler Republican party? You betcha! At least until they get back into power many years down the road.

Hopefully they will kick out the divisive religious conservatives who waste time on abortion and gay marriage instead of fiscal conservatism. That's the reason McCain lost my vote.

The only way Republicans could come back to this with a strong fist is if Obama ended up to be a poor president to the extent where most Americans would want something different...I have reason to believe that we'd get a Republican in 2012 but hopefully the social conservatives will crawl back to church where their views belong, instead of hawking them to the exclusion of non-christians in our government.

The Republican party will half to recreate its self like the Democratic party has, it's not the same party that opposed freeing slaves and fought so much civil rights legislation. If they don't the democratic party will have majority for years to come, especially if the democratic party maintains control after we emerge from this economic crisis and gain the upper hand in Afghanistan against Al-quida.

If Obama wins even his supporters will realize what fools they were. In 2010 the Republicans will take back Congress and in 2012 a Republican will be elected into the White House once again and everything will be fine once more.

I can imagine them doing everything they can to sabotage Obama's efforts. They will no longer be the "patriots" they claim to be. Many are so brainwashed they'll start investing in underground bunkers and preparing for Armageddon and the end of the world. Then when it doesn't come and things start getting better with the democrats in charge, they'll deny that things are better even if those in the middle get a tax cut. REpublicans are like a malignant tumor. They have a life and reality of their own and won't hesitate to destroy everything just to maintain their illusions.

They will rename the party the Mavericks and appoint Palin as their next presidential candidate.

The other wing of the party will split and call themselves the Repumocrats.

Get ready to pick of the pieces in 2012 as they did with Carter and Clinton.

It will reorganize and come back in another 6 years, just in time for the next election. Maybe more middle of the road without the strangle hold of the ultra right wingers.

republicans wont lose. Obama supporters must now walk the walk and vote. Or else there is no chance for education, health care and the American dream. 4 more years means 100 more years (of war)

I am not a Republican, but hopefully you guys will weed out the fundamentalists that pushed you so far to the right that you have lost touch with America. The GOP is the party of insular negativity - and that is not of any use in a crisis.

"Republicans to come back and fix the mess" - Haaaaahhaaaahhhaaa. When have they ever?

As is obvious on this board - enough ignorant people still buy their line of cra*.

They will plot their revenge againt Obama, taking him out by any means necessary even if it means they throw the whole country down the toilet just like with Clinton.

Then sooner or later they will slime their way back into the White House and do it (abuse office, start wars, get rich, boom and another huge economic bust) ALL OVER AGAIN!

Probably the same thing the Democrates did when they lost in 2004, restructure and move on.

split into Social conservatives and economic conservatives. The economic conservatives probably share more with libertarians now. And the Guns republicans...well they just shoot themselves because Obama will take their guns away

In 2010, the Republicans will regain full control of the House and Senate, assuming leadership of the 112th Congress in 2011.

In 2012, the Republicans will regain the Presidency and retain full control of the 113th Congress, thus giving the Republicans full leadership of the government in 2013.

By 2017, they MIGHT have the mess cleaned up that Obama made during the 111th Congress.

I don't see a "fate". We're just going to have gear up for the next mid term election and get some more Republicans back in Congress and then get ready for 2012. But I see McCain winning.

The republicans will lose this year. They need a good whipping. They need to learn that you cant just screw people over and then expect to be reelected.

They will need to prove themselves again before anyone will elect them. Especially after you see Democrats improve things.

It will probably be outlawed and we will have one party rule.

It's funny that Lotus mentions guns being taking away, Obama has been reassuring us that he is not going to take away our guns (I believe you are right Lotus). It will be interesting to see what other promises and reassurances aren't real.

Will have a presidential win in 2012, 2016, 2020.

If Obama keeps his promises then he is another Jimmy Carter. Jimmy Carter caused high inflation, high unemployment, and high interest rates by raising taxes during a recession.

Well, the next 4 years will be an economic disaster for Obama and by 2012, most people will be clamoring for Republicans to come back and fix the mess.

(The sitting president is always blamed for the economy, whether right or wrong.)
