For the first time ever, candidates can access their national examination results via mobile phone services.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has collaborated with the two mobile service providers, Celtel and Safaricom, to ease access to exam results.
The groundbreaking development will enable the 2006 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examination candidates to access their results through a short message service (SMS).
To get the results, one is required to type a short text message with the word 'KCPE' followed by the 9-digit index number of the candidate then send it to 7070. The response details the examination results.
For more information on how to use the service, interested parties are advised to call 020-340092, 247344, 226522 and 246919.
This service is in addition to information posted on KNEC's website, www.examscouncil.org.ke that began last year. The national results are also available on soft copy in a compact disc.
"Service delivery is greatly improved with the use of Information and Communication Technology, which we should embrace extensively," Education minister, Prof George Saitoti said yesterday while releasing the examination results.
