If government shutdown occurs in a few days, will its consequences match the ones in 1995?

At least in electoral meaning. Back in 1995, As per Wikipedia, "Public opinion favored the president; Clinton's approval rating fell precipitously during the shutdown, but once it had ended they rose to their highest since his election"

I highly doubt it since it is the Democrats that are currently ignoring the trillion plus deficit. It is funny how the Democrats today say that we shouldn't do what the Republican Congress did back in the 1990's instead we should keep spending recklessly.

Once people realize that the Republicans know exactly the kind of havoc they will create with the shutdown they have been captured on video saying they WILL cause there very well could be a worse backlash than the last time with the 1995-1996 shut downs. They know that they are not just going to idle the federal workers but also millions of private company employees will be laid off just like last time and thousands of trucks and truck drivers were idled. They know this for a fact and yet they have said over and over that they will force a shutdown.

That's why the Democrats were caught red handed routing for a shut down so they can pin it on the GOP. Typical dirty politics from the liberals.

I hope I still get my government benefits before it shuts down.

Yes, because Clinton supporters are government dependents.

Well, that's sort of the million dollar question, isn't it?

I guess I'm thinking Obama, who has a pretty good popularity rating, will win it.
