Almost all past presidents have either been a governor, senator, or vice pres.
Past Governors: FDR, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, Jimmy carter and the current president.
Past Senators: John Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson.
Past Vice Presidents: Teddy Roosevelt, Lyndon Johnson, Harry Truman, George HW Bush, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford.
Eisenhower was unique in that he was a military commander.

There are preconceived ideas, as to what background better prepares one of the oval office. At the end of the day, it is about how good you are at making decisions, and more importantly the right decisions. Most agree that our greatest President, was Honest Abe Lincoln, but he held neither of the offices you mentioned... He was a Congressman ( House of Representatives)

Well I think you have to look at all of the different spectrums. First you must examine exactly what each president did no matter what their previous position was. When it comes to Vice Presidents, usually they assume that responsibility when the president that preceded them either passed away, or left office due to illness. The presidents that held position of governor or senator tended to have more experience with laws and legislation. They were more experienced in making key decisions, especially the one's that were former governors. I say all of this to say that each position has its own level of responsibility. Now in my opinion, I think the presidents that were former Governors had more success because they were able to use the decision making ability to help them with crisis in the presidency. Being a senator was helpful to, but as a senator you didn't have a level of authority when it came to making new laws. The only things senators do, is work within the community and vote on legislation that is then handed over to congress and approved. The success of the past governors was evident with those such as Reagan, and Clinton. The others were successful too, but they did not show the type of leadership that Reagan and Clinton showed..

Governors. They know how to govern a state. Most senators are insincere idiots that just vote to get their salaries raised. they have absolutely no idea how to be president. Vice presidents also, though they might be right there, don't do much. They just break ties and shoot people in the face. Our greatest recent presidents were governors: Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, FDR. JFK, for you info, is extremely overrated. If he hadn't been young and brutally assassinated, nobody would be making a big deal about him. I still respect him, but this is my serious view as an independent.

Governors !!

Governors are MANAGING entire states - like small countries.

Senators are trying to legislate - JUNIOR Senators do very little !!

Vice Presidents are gaining knowledge by working with the President / Commander in Chief !!

.

Democrats have to recognize that since the 73rd Congress in 1933, ... for a MAJORITY of THE LAST 65 YEARS, ... Democratic Houses of Representatives and Democratic Senates have CONTROLLED the nation and the President.

A TOTAL of 38 Sessions with Democrats in CONTROL for 28 of those!

WE need to inform/TELL our political representatives that WE NEED TO PASS a Constitutional Amendment for the LINE ITEM VETO.

This will keep the SPECIAL INTEREST GARBAGE from being attached to valuable legislation.

If Congress wants to give the president that power, they will have to pass a constitutional amendment, Supreme Justice John Paul Stevens said. "If there is to be a new procedure in which the president will play a different role in determining the text of what may become a law, such change must come not by legislation but through the amendment procedures set forth in Article V of the Constitution," Stevens said, on June 25th, 1998.

IF your special interest is SO valuable, why do you have to HIDE it in valuable legislation?

So, with them REFUSING to PASS the Line Item Veto, in reality, the House and Senate have REALLY been controlling the country!!

AND, with the CURRENT Senate and Congress having the WORST approval rating in HISTORY, hopefully we will see a LOT of changes after the general elections.

A recent Reuters poll is out and Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have pulled an upset: They have managed to make George Walker Bush twice as popular as CONGRESS.

RECENTLY - - JUST 13% of Likely Voters now say the DEMOCRATICALLY CONTROLLED Congress is doing a good or excellent job. A recent Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 43% give Congress a poor rating.

Those results represent a slight decrease from the previous month, when 15% gave Congress a good or excellent rating.

Democrats generally believe in heavy fines for honest work, while rewarding sloth and indulgence.

Do YOU think that people should be able to do absolutely nothing productive and get government hand-outs for sloth and indulgence - healthcare, tobacco, alcohol, drugs, STDs, etc. ??

Do YOU want to have YOUR MONEY TAKEN from YOU and YOUR FAMILY to FINANCE these people ???

.

JUNIOR U. S. Senator Obama did NOT complete his FIRST term in office !! ... with just 143 days of ACTUAL experience ... HE decided ... that he DESERVED to be THE President of THE United States of America !!!

.

TAXES ... TAXES ... AND ... MORE TAXES ... are what is driving American corporations to downsize in America and expand in "friendlier" countries !!!

I think any 2 of the 3.

The Senate provides valuable policy and issue experience. The governorship or VP provides executive and management experience.

Of course this rule isn't perfect. Reagan was only a governor, yet was a great president.

BTW, I believe TR was also a governor.

Vice president see the presidents job first hand and have already gone through the vetting process by the parties.

Governors have already done the exact same things. dealing with a congress (state), dealing with military (national guard) and has gone through all the same things in a smaller scale except for dealing with other nations.

Common wisdom says governors make the best presidents because they actually ran a state where the others have not.

"there haven't been a military man who have made the best president list "

George Washington is almost always at, or near, the top of the list. You might want to study some history there..

What is important also is what they were before they became these people. Attorneys are the worst and most corrupting. These have been some of our worst presidents and have done so many wrongs.

Eisenhower was not unique. Washington, Taylor, Jackson, and Teddy Roosevelt were also war heros. Most were also generals.

How about a gynecologist congressman from Texas named Ron Paul.

While experience is important, it is not everything.

The type of person that the candidate is determines who makes the best President.

A vice president or failing that, a senator.

I don't think it's the post, but the man that determines who will be the best president. For me that man must be well educated and intelligent, diplomatic and thoughtful of differing opinions, care about all Americans not just the rich or lobbyists, and still have ideals. For me, that man is clearly Obama.
