Why are the Dems so out of touch with American people?

People have spoken, " we want to drill and increase our own oil output" and yet Nancy and her buddies are so dead set against people's will? Are they above the people they are supposed to serve?

Please get your facts straight.

Because anytime McCain thinks he can "inject some humor" into the campaign when people are losing their homes, choosing between food and medicines, barely able to put gas in their cars to get them back and forth to work, then there's someone who is out of touch with America.

But of course he would be. His mother is an oil heiress and his wife is a beer heiress.

So what does McCain know about a struggle?

And btw, if you think the oil companies are going to drill for oil and put it back in America when countries like China and India are getting numerous people behind the wheel, think again.

The oil industry sees that demand will be going up around the world, and they want to be the suppliers of that need. The oil they drill will be exported. It won't help America.

Drilling will not bring prices down. This drilling idea is not a short term solution. We need something that is going to help us now. What sense does it make to pass something that will not effect prices until years later. that's the problem with republicans they are not thinking this thing through. Drilling off shore alone, is not the answer. If we do drill there needs to be pre conditions something that will give us relief immediately.

I think people in this country have spoken, but they don't fully understand all the circumstances that come with drilling off shore. I think they have the misconception that so how by drilling off shore, it will bring gas prices down. Sure, it will, but not for a very long time and it won't be enough.

I have to admit that you are right about Pelosi and the others who don't want to drill for oil in the U.S. But its not just that issue, there are other issues that congress continues to avoid. They are avoiding the issue of finding alternative fuel sources that have nothing to do with oil. I think that nuclear energy would be a good resource however many in congress don't want to take that approach or any other approach. However I must say to be fair, the Republicans haven't done that much better on key issues. In terms of alternative resources the Republicans have been ok, but when it comes to the economy and taxation, the Republicans have changed all of their positions and they have not come up with an idea that has stuck with the people. Its a known fact that many Americans trust Obama with our economy rather than with McCain. Well why is that? McCain has made it clear that he does not want to give tax cuts to lower income people but rather give them to larger corporations. The bottom line is that both parties have flaws. The Democrats in congress seem to be stubborn on the energy issuse, while the Republicans seem to be stubborn about the economy and taxation. Both parties have something that they can do better..

Sorry to disagree with you but if you ask a question like this you must be way way out of touch. You seem to have fixated on this one issue which has arisen now. If you go back to every issue that is of national importance from stem cells to selling our ports to Arab governments I think it will become abundantly clear that Republicans have been way out of touch. While I disagree with both parties on the best road to complete energy independence I think you will agree that the proposal to open up more areas to drilling has only been an issue for a few weeks while many other issues have gone ignored by the republicans for years including the push for conservation to better mass transit funding.

Drilling now + ten years = price reduction of ten cents per gallon of gas for a period of 3 years. We need permanent solution not a band aid.

I have a solution to the whole "to drill or not to drill" issue. Stop driving ridiculously large engined vehicles that have the fuel consumption of a small nation yet have the acceleration of a glacier.

Simple.

The dems voted these people into office and now the whole country must suffer Pelosie's idiocy and selfish irreverent attitude. This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to how badly the democratic party manages itself and governs....without any responsibility to the American People or the voices of their own party--deaf, dumb and blind--that's the Democratic Congress!!! Pelosie makes even dumb women look good!

You know, that's the way our government works. We elect people to represent us, and they use their judgment. Often they make choices which do not represent the will of the majority. It happens on both sides of the aisle. For example, most Americans are "pro-choice," but many Republicans are not.

Supply and demand. If they are able to supply more and the price drops, we will use more. Oil is a non-renewable energy source. We need to reduce our dependence to it. We are not going to be able to drill our way out of this problem. Besides, even if we gave the oil companies permission to begin off-shore drilling, the oil from those projects would not be on the market for a decade.

I agree that 'the people have said things' but not what you are saying. They are saying, why does big oil need more land when they won't drill on the 68,000,000 acres they have (33,000,000 are off-shore) under lease. The States that would have new off-shore drilling have Republican Governors and they all agree with off-shore drilling....as long as it isn't "their" shores. Lets wait and see if Congress goes ahead with the "use it or lose it" Bill that would make the oil companies drill on land they hold leases on or lose the leases.

Listen, I would fully support more drilling if it would change anything. But it won't.

Oil price is set by OIL SPECULATION. Not supply and demand. So if we increase supply does that lower price? Nope.

So why drill more when it doesn't solve the root cause of the problem?

Stay tuned. The Dem waffling on drilling has begun. Hints from Obama. And watch for Nancy, too, when she's back from vacation. They know polls when they see them.

Because they're just like women buying a present. Now before everyone gets their panties in a bunch, let me explain. When a woman, whether your wife, girlfriend, whoever, asks you what you would like for Christmas and you say "I'd like a telescoping miter saw so I can finish that project I've been working on", she'll inevitably get you a new electric razor.

Why?

Because even though they know what you want, they decide to buy you what they think you should want. You know it's true, lol. Just like Nancy Pelosi. She actually stated that it was her calling to use her position to save the world. Huh? Did the people of SF vote for here to save the world? (Ok, maybe the whackos in SF did, but you get the point) Like you said, I thought their job was to fulfill the will of the people, not to educate us dumb peasants on what we should want.

Just think when we get 4+ years of the Senate, Congress, and the Presidency telling us ignorant sods what's good for us. Work hard, bust ***, then give it all to those too lazy to work...nice...

P.S. And to all of you that keep screaming about putting all of our resouces into alt enegy...you mean like cancer for decades? Throwing money and people at a problem doesn't guarantee success. And what about in the meantime? Do nothing? Nice plan.

The Democratic party is controlled by extreme liberals. They are elitists who believe they are the only one's smart enough to make decisions and need to run our lives for us for our own good.
2008-08-04 14:35:48 UTC
Yes, but if we start drilling today we can't use that oil for 30 years. Yes we could drill but democrats are looking for REAL solutions while republicans are just going to use drilling as a way to say that they are doing something even though we won't be able to use that oil for years.
2008-08-04 14:36:03 UTC
I wouldn't generalize this as all Democrats, but some have more beliefs in protecting the environment more than the low income single mom who has to quit her job because she can't afford gas to get to work. Just like some Republicans are wanting to spend government money on a war when that money could go to all of our starving families of this country.

Nancy Pelosi does not equal the entire Democratic party.
2008-08-04 14:35:21 UTC
Because Dems ONLY CARE about themselves, even though they're always saying their Party is the PEOPLE'S PARTY. Yeah right! drink some more kool aid. Also, being a left winger just naturally leads you into being an idiot liberal, it is a natural progression and can't be helped.
2008-08-04 14:36:34 UTC
it's a ridiculous suggestion. tear up our environment for what? so the oil companies can get richer? so they can apply for, and receive, american funding for drilling and exploration? and for what? it would be a decade before you see oil coming from those new wells. and after that, the petroleum mined from those new wells goes on the open world market; doesn't ensure the oil stays in america.

a better plan is to rid ourselves of the need for oil. mass transit.

I think the difference is liberals think controlling other people is a virtue, and don't mind the government doing that sort of thing.

More and more I think the Dems are the anti-freedom party.

People who want to drill are just stupid. Drilling will not help the underlying problem. Drilling is just a bandaid. We need to put ALL of our resources into alternative energy because THAT is where the future lies.
