Question:
What is this "CHANGE" Obama is running as his primary message?
?

What is positive that Obama can offer?

Is it:
bigger govt
more taxes
more social programs
minimizing the defense dept.
war on corporations
enabling trial lawyers to sue easier
enabling terrorists to attack us on US soil
destroying capitalism
leaving Iraq open for IRAN to take it over
socialism
communism
more reverse racism
getting even with whitey
embracing the new Cuba

If this "CHANGE" is basically all of the items listed above, then why not make it clear, I have no idea what this "CHANGE" is?

To those referencing Obama's "Blueprint for Change" - I read it - but the main question he avoids is HOW? and AT WHAT COST?

The man is a master at talking around his subject without saying anything and unless you remind yourself to ask HOW? then you might be gullible.

Remember, everything he wants to do is paid for by the taxpayers.

Here's one example from his blueprint:

"Children’s First Agenda that provides care, learning and support to families with children from birth up to five years old."

What does he mean by "care" and by "support" and by "learning"? Who provides the care? What level? Where is this care given?

Ya get the drift? His Blueprint is a lot of smoke and blue sky, and expensive.

To be honest, he has not been very clear on the subject.

Bigger government is part of the Democratic platform.

More taxes, for social programs (as opposed to defence) is also usually part of the Dem platform.

Yes, more social programs.

Minimising the defence dept is also usually part of the Dem platform.

'War on corporations' is an overstatement, but usually the Dems are not as hand-in-glove with corporate interests as Republicans are.

The 'trial lawyer' thing is not relevant to the Presidency.

NOBODY wants to enable terrorists to attack ANYONE, ANYWHERE.

'Destroying capitalism'? What are you smoking?

Withdrawing US troops from Iraq IS part of Senator Obama's plan... but there is no reason to believe that Iran WANTS to take over, and he would ensure that did not happen.

'Socialism'? On what planet?

'COMMUNISM'? What colour is the sky on your planet?

'More reverse-racism' implies that there is such a thing as 'reverse-racism'; as a woman of colour, I refuse to dignify that with a response.

'Getting even with whitey'? If 'Whitey' is you, I would be happy to take care of that personally. NO. Senator Obama is NOT racist in ANY way. He is a product of a mixed-race union, for heaven's sake!

'Embracing the new Cuba'... well... we don't really know anything about 'the new Cuba' yet. Fidel is still alive, and the country is still communist. When and if it becomes appropriate, if Obama is President, he will doubtless make the appropriate overtures, to ease tensions between the USA and Cuba.

Um, the change he's talking about is the kind of change you get when you really don't HAVE any change.... didn't he copy this line off of George W Bush?

What's the difference between Obama and Clinton anyway?

Both are part of the same old Bildeberg/Council of Foreign Relations/Trilateral Commission club.

Both support military action against Iran.

Both will NOT provide REAL universal health care, only have everyone do universal insurance payments.

Both are wishy-washy over Iraq.

Neither of them have spelt out any clear policies to improve public education.

Both of them take lots of money from big corporations and have lobbyists/bundlers working for them.

Again, there's only one guy left in the Democratic primary race still running who DOESN'T do any of these things or support any of these bankrupt policy positions. Yes, there are three candidates still ...

I don't get it. Why they keep defending him when they have the proof. I will tell you this though. I have been a strong Hillary supporter. But if it ever came out that Hillary's pastor preached hate messages, and there were tapes to prove it. And she had stayed there for close to twenty years and then claimed that she didn't know he was like that because she had never heard him preach that way, after being in that church for close to twenty years, then I would drop my support for her in a second. She would have to have had some of the same values or she would not have stayed there that long. That is the way I look at it no mater who it was about.

If this is his "Change," I can only "Hope" he does not get elected.

You know what his change is. We hear it often enough.

"I believe in the change that we have not seen before. We cannot let it go unchanged as it always has been. I have the hope for change, change that will bring us better hope and change in the future!"

That's clear enough, isn't it?

It means change the problems in this country such as selling our nation to the lowest bidder (China), giving away our federal taxes to George Bush's campaign contributors, and going after Osama bin laden, instead of the wrong country.

I would think rather than showing how ignorant you are, you'd rather research it first.

To give a quick synopsis of the change he speaks of. He wants to bring both parties together, make the US much more fiscally responsible, withdraw troops from Iraq, strengthen ally ties, become more energy independent, etc etc

It's a change in the way politics has historically influenced our government, it's a change in the way people like you (far right or far left) make decisions for the majority.

Yes! I'm glad you set us straight. Change is everything you don't like, everything you are afraid of. That's what Obama will do. He will outlaw private property, abolish the military, and round up people like you in re-education camps. That's it! You've got him nailed! 8^)

Of course now that you know too much, you'll have to be eliminated.

more socialism and we should be asking ourselves, how and who is going to pay for all of them. it will be you and me, the American taxpayer, so are you ready to put your money where you mouth is? if not, then you might want to ask some of these really hard questions.

A Message from Barack:

Thank you for taking a look at this booklet.

I believe it’s critically important that those of us who want to lead this nation be open, candid, and clear with the American people about how we will move forward. So I hope this booklet gives you a good sense about where I stand on the fundamental issues facing our country.

But I also hope that this booklet sparks a dialogue and that after you’ve finished reading it, you get in touch with our campaign and give us your thoughts on the policies you find here. It’s time to put government back in your hands, where it belongs. If we want to have policies that are good for the American people, then we need the American people to help shape those policies.

We all know what’s at stake. This is a defining moment in our history. Our nation is at war. The planet is in peril. The dream that so many generations fought for feels as if it’s slowly slipping away. We’ve never paid more for health care or for college. It’s harder to save and retire. And most of all, we’ve lost faith that our leaders can or will do anything about it.

But it is because of their failures that this moment of challenge is also a moment of opportunity. We have a chance to bring the country together in a new majority - to finally tackle problems that Washington has ignored for too long. And that is why the same old Washington textbook campaigns just won’t do in this election.

The Democratic Party has always made the biggest difference in the lives of the American people when we’ve led not by polls, but by principle; not by calculation, but by conviction; when we summoned the entire nation to a common purpose - a higher purpose. And I run for the presidency because that’s the party America needs us to be right now. I run to offer this country change that we can believe in.

I am in this race to tell the corporate lobbyists that their days of setting the agenda in Washington are over.

1

I’m in this race because I want to stop talking about the outrage of 47 million Americans without health care and start actually doing something about it. I’m in this race to end our dependence on Middle East oil and save our planet from the crisis of climate change so we can give our children a planet that’s cleaner and safer than we found it.

As president, I will end the war in Iraq, a war that I opposed from the beginning and that should never have been authorized. I will finish the fight against Al Qaeda. And I will lead the world to combat the common threats of the 21st century - nuclear weapons and terrorism; climate change and poverty; genocide and disease.

America, our moment is now. I don’t want to spend the next year or the next four years re-fighting the same fights that we had in the 1990s. I don’t want to pit Red America against Blue America, I want to be the President of the United States of America.

That’s why I’m asking you to stand with me, that’s why I’m asking you to caucus for me, that’s why I’m asking you to stop settling for what the cynics say we have to accept. In this election - in this moment - let us reach for what we know is possible. A nation healed. A world repaired. An America that believes again.

So thank you for taking the time to read this booklet, which lays out very clearly how I will achieve these goals for the people of Iowa. And if you have any questions or want to get involved or want to offer your ideas about how we can make our policies stronger, I hope you’ll visit http://iowa.barackobama.com, call 515-883-2008 or drop into one of our more than 37 offices across the state.

Sincerely,

Barack Obama

“I am in this race to tell the corporate lobbyists that their days of setting the agenda in Washington are over. I have done more than any other candidate in this race to take on lobbyists – and won. They have not funded my campaign, they will not get a job in my White House, and they will not drown out the voices of the American people when I am president.”

-- Barack Obama, Speech in Des Moines, IA, November 10, 2007

Barack Obama’s Plan to Change Washington

At a Glance

A Leader for Reform

Obama reached across the aisle and challenged leaders of both parties to pass historic ethics reforms both in Washington and Springfield, IL. Unlike other candidates, he refuses to accept campaign contributions from PACs and Washington lobbyists.

Close the Revolving Door

Obama will close the revolving door between the executive branch and K-Street lobbying shops. Obama’s appointees will serve the American people, not their own financial interests.

Increase Transparency

Obama will increase transparency so that ordinary Americans can understand their government and trust that their money is well spent.

End Wasteful No-Bid Contracts

Obama will clean up government contracting and end the abuse of no-bid contracts.

THE PROBLEM

Lobbyists Write National Policies

For example, Vice President Dick Cheney’s Energy Task Force of oil and gas lobbyists met secretly to develop national energy policy.

Secrecy Dominates Government Actions

The Bush administration has ignored public disclosure rules and has invoked a legal tool known as the ‘state secrets’ privilege more than any other previous administration to get cases thrown out of civil court.

Wasteful Spending is Out of Control

The current administration has abused its power by handing out contracts without competition to its politically connected friends and supporters. These abuses cost taxpayers billions of dollars each year.

ETHICS

BARACK OBAMA’s Plan

Shine Light on Washington Lobbying

Centralize Ethics and Lobbying Information for Voters: Obama will create a centralized Internet database of lobbying reports, ethics records, and campaign finance filings in a searchable, sortable and downloadable format.

Require Independent Monitoring of Lobbying Laws and Ethics Rules: Obama will use the power of the presidency to fight for an independent watchdog agency to oversee the investigation of congressional ethics violations so that the public can be assured that ethics complaints will be investigated.

Support Campaign Finance Reform: Obama supports public financing of campaigns combined with free television and radio time as a way to reduce the influence of moneyed special interests. Obama introduced public financing legislation in the Illinois State Senate, and is the only 2008 candidate to have sponsored Senator Russ Feingold’s (D-WI) tough bill to reform the presidential public financing system.

Shine the Light on Federal Contracts, Tax Breaks and Earmarks

Create a Public “Contracts and Influence” Database: As president, Obama will create a “contracts and influence” database that will disclose how much federal contractors spend on lobbying, and what contracts they are getting and how well they complete them.

Expose Special Interest Tax Breaks to Public Scrutiny: Barack Obama will ensure that any tax breaks for corporate recipients – or tax earmarks – are also publicly available on the Internet in an easily searchable format.

End Abuse of No-Bid Contracts: Barack Obama will end abuse of no-bid contracts by requiring that nearly all contract orders over $25,000 be competitively awarded.

Sunlight Before Signing: Too often bills are rushed through Congress and to the president before the public has the opportunity to review them. As president, Obama will not sign any non-emergency bill without giving the American public an opportunity to review and comment on the White House website for five days.

Shine Light on Earmarks and Pork Barrel Spending: Obama’s Transparency and Integrity in Earmarks Act will shed light on all earmarks by disclosing the name of the legislator who asked for each earmark, along with a written justification, 72 hours before they can be approved by the full Senate.

Bring Americans Back into their Government

Hold 21st Century Fireside Chats: Obama will bring democracy and policy directly to the people by requiring his Cabinet officials to have periodic national broadband townhall meetings to discuss issues before their agencies.

Make White House Communications Public: Obama will amend executive orders to ensure that communications about regulatory policymaking between persons outside government and all White House staff are disclosed to the public.

Conduct Regulatory Agency Business in Public: Obama will require his appointees who lead the executive branch departments and rulemaking agencies to conduct the significant business of the agency in public, so that any citizen can watch these debates in person or on the Internet.

Release Presidential Records: Obama will nullify the Bush attempts to make the timely release of presidential records more difficult.

5

Free the Executive Branch from Special Interest Influence

Close the Revolving Door on Former and Future Employers: No political appointees in an Obama administration will be permitted to work on regulations or contracts directly and substantially related to their prior employer for two years. And no political appointee will be able to lobby the executive branch after leaving government service during the remainder of the administration.

Free Career Officials from the Influence of Politics: Obama will issue an executive order asking all new hires at the agencies to sign a form affirming that no political appointee offered them the job solely on the basis of political affiliation or contribution.

Reform the Political Appointee Process: FEMA Director Michael Brown was not qualified to head the agency, and the result was a disaster f
