Some are saying that the Dems just shot themselves in the foot with the ruling they gave regarding the Florida and MI fiasco. That they basically just handed McCain those big states in November.
Do you agree?

I strongly disagree. Michigan passes the Kerry test: did they vote for John Kerry? Yes. John Kerry was a terrible candidate running against a bad candidate. He was terrible uninteresting, but still carried the state. Considering that Barack Obama has been inspiring the largest turn-outs of black and youth voters in history, and that these blocks are the most solidly Democratic...Michigan is going to be Obama's. McCain is a poor candidate wearing a giant mill-stone around his neck(the Bush legacy), supported by a party that is demoralized and feels as though it has lost its way(it has.)
Florida is a much tougher situation, and is a rare case where Hillary actually does look stronger. It has been growing progressively redder, and will probably go for McCain, though Obama isn't giving up on it in the least...

McCain has a very good chance of winning both states, and they are certainly important ones, indeed. But the general election is different than primary season. The Democrats have brought out many, many new voters. The shear number of eager Democrats may weigh heavily against McCain. Polling too often takes into account percentages when this time around it might be absolute numbers of voters that matter the most.

I find it more likely than not that McCain will take Florida. It's been a fairly consistent red state for the past few elections.
However, I'm also as certain that Michigan will go to Obama. The problem with Michigan, and several other states is that we have one or two large population centers (Michigan has Detroit, for example) which, because of their sheer population density, can overrule the wishes of the entire state. Detroit, with its uneducated (one of the most educated cities in the nation, if not THE most uneducated), its large minority population (I've heard a LOT of people say they'll vote for Obama just because he is half-black), and its unions (which are staunchly pro-democrat) will vote for Obama, and therefore force the entire state to swing to the Blue.

The only way Florida and Michigan will go to McCain is if their residents like seeing their jobs go overseas due to free trade agreements that do nothing but give the superwealthy access to new poor (and middle class) citizens to take advantage of. The reason why the Republican administration allows China and India to take Americans jobs is because the super rich publicans want to open up Walmarts and mcDonald's in Shanghai and Bombay, so that the Waltons (the owners of Walmart) can continue to buy $60 million paintings and build $100 million museums in cornfields. . McCain has said many times that he'll continue this trend and have free trade agreements with more countries.

Florida will go to McCain despite anything the Dems do.
Michigan will probably go to the Democrats since the unions still have a lot of power here.

I think it will... I also think many of the larger states will go to McCain, because Obama didn't fair so well in states like California, Texas, Ohio. The bottom line is that McCain has had the advantage since early April, becuase he doesn't have to do anything but sit back and form his strategies. I think the advantage goes to the person who has the most time to gain strength and support while the others slowly take each other out...

well i think florida will for sure , as polls look good for mccain there .
michigan is a possible win for mccain but not guaranteed as detroit area is solidly democrat and bitter over job loses . but mccain might be able to pull off a win as rest of the state is fairly republican .

FL - yes but not so much do to the fact of the primary more do to the fact that a large part of the democrat base there is not obama's strong point.
MI - no. Obama should not have any trouble pulling this one out. He only trails by a small margin right now, and has only visited the state once. McCain has visited several times, and its demographics look like a pretty easy Obama win.

If Hillary Clinton is not the nominee then expect a sore "foot" for four years. President Bush will pretend he is withdrawing troops. He will make the case that a strong military leader will be needed to complete the draw-down. Easy win for John McCain.

Maybe, because the are pissed of. They might take their frustations on the DNC by voting for McCain this fall. Thus possibly hurting the democrats in the electoral college.

It depend if Hillary runs as an independent or not. If it is only Obama against Mccain, Mccain wins hands down.
2008-06-02 08:54:07 UTC
Florida without a doubt will go for Mccain.
Michigan, I don't know. They have Kwame, Granholm and Levin. Detroit would be overwhelming for Obama because of color, but there may be people who start to realize that dems take their votes for granted and will wake up.

The Republicans have already defeated the dem.s. This happened the day John Edward quit.

I think if Obama is the Dem candidate, McCain will take Florida and possibly California. I think Dems voting for McCain in our primary when yours wasn't supposed to count is how we got stuck with that loser to begin with.

The Republican legislatures in both states who moved up the Primary dates certainly hoped that would happen.
I guess they got their wish.

Hillary voters have no spine. They are self serving and will switch candidates like a feather candle wind. I vowed "no romney, no vote" so i won't vote this year (florida here btw)

Republicans in those states will go to McCain, of course. That doesn't mean he'll win in the general election.

Outcome in Michigan will depend upon who McCain's VP is.

No.
The DNC penalized MI and FL 50% of their delegates because they moved their primaries up to a date that was too rarly.
The RNC penalized MI and FL 50% of their delegates because they moved their primaries up to a date that was too rarly.
McCain can't criticize the democrats for doing what the republicans also did.

Florida will. Consistently Republican state. Not sure about Michigan.
2008-06-02 08:50:35 UTC
over the past 16 years, with the exception of that one time that bill won florida, it has always gone to the republicans.
but michigan has demographics that are conducive for obama. he will take michigan.
2008-06-02 08:51:45 UTC
Michigan will go solidly Obama. Florida would go Republican whether Hillary or Obama is the nominee. It wont matter. Obama will get about 370 electoral votes.

i hope so, here in michigan we know what happens to an economy when it is down, and your govener raises taxes and spending!! ECONOMY GETS WORSE!
That is why i hope neither TAX-&-SPEND democratic nominee gets elected!
