When I look at the maps that show strong Obama states and strong Romney states, I completely understand the south (bible belts) who vote Republican. I get California and Chicago being Democratic. But I'm surprised New York and NJ and other New Englanders are strong Democratic States. When I think of those states, I think of people with a lot of $money$, so wouldn't they be Republican voters??

Just like the other poster said, when you take New York city out of the equation, there is not such a drastic difference. We also have a large jewish population which tend to vote democratic as well... There are quite a few republican strongholds on Long Island and upstate.. The main democratic stronghold that decides the vote is the city... Not necessarily the state as a whole... where I live, democrats would definitely be in the minority, not majority...

New York has one of the largest immigrant populations in America, and Republicans do poorly with minorities.

Also, New York has a lot of college graduates, a group that tends to be secular in views and favorable to Democrats.

If you take away New York City's votes from New York State, the difference between Republican and Democrat would not be so stark. Urban areas simply color themselves blue, and there's nothing more urban than NYC.

for many motives. first of all he's destroying his very own image of no longer being yet another politican whilst he turn-flops like loopy, he opposes the will of the individuals on drilling and the McCain camp is finally springing up a message whilst hitting Obama's.
