When Obama has less? As my grandmother used to say " Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black?"

I challenge any of you to prove Obama has more or even AS MUCH experience as Governor Palin.

Because they are threatened by her. Palin took the wind out of their sails and all of the attention off of Obama for the first time in a long time. They don't know how to react to the fact that McCain and Obama are now basically equal or that McCain may be somewhat ahead. Before, Obama was the one who was the "good public speaker." Now he has someone on the other side who is just as talented as he is and who can rally crowds just as well. They need something against her, but there really isn't much of anything. So people try to convince themselves that his ridiculous 147 days in the Senate(where he didn't even vote usually) and being a community organizer some how qualifies him to have one of the most important positions in the world. Somehow that is more experience than running a city or a state? Riiiight.

It is unfortunate that so many democrats do question her experience to be president, even here on YA. Never mind the fact she is running for VP. I think it has to do with the attempt to:

1- question her fitness to serve in any capacity

2- distract from Obama's lack of experience

3- insinuate that McCain is too old to serve without being ageist

4- a means of attacking her without getting into what her positions are and what her potential influence in a McCain administration would be

Truth of the matter is, Palin is a governor of a state with 12,000 employees and a $13 billion budget. That is a fairly sizable organization. I think she does have a fair amount of executive experience, more than Obama, Biden, and McCain put together.

Now that we have that out of the way, can we discuss issues?

We don't question that she was mayor of a town of 5,500, with a budget smaller than a typical school district and a whopping 53 employees. We don't question her record their either. BTW, you should know that her great executive experience was overseeing city council meetings in the basement of an old school to decide which roads to pave next. Also, did you hear that her great experience did not involve emergency or health agencies. That was handled by a larger district entity. Also, that she had enough free time to question particular books in the town library. (Note for those who call this experience: In a real city/town, the mayor does not have time to browse through the shelves and periodicals. In my town the Library Commissioner reports to the mayor the issues at hand probably once a year. That commissioner has a budget and staff 10 times that of the entire "town" of Wasilla.)

I don't discount her experience; it just doesn't matter.

And when was the last time she even sat in on a US senate meeting to even listen to US affairs and foreign affairs? Waiting, waiting,waiting.....OH, NEVER! This person wasn't even following the Iraq war. She's a joke and McCain is a bigger joke for selecting her.

Even worse is his position on the economy! If we are working hard, but our financial infrastructure is failing, then the fundamentals of our economy are NOT WORKING, IDIOT!

It's like talking to dumb and dumber. Please do not vote this man into office. He's clueless!

The point is not to get into an argument over who has more experience: Obama or Palin. That is a stupid argument that nobody is going to win. The point is that John McCain said that experience was important, and that he was going to choose a vice president who was ready to be president. Then he chose Sarah Palin. Which means that he can no longer argue that Barack Obama does not have enough experience to be president.

And it also means that McCain now recognizes that what the voters want is change, not experience.

Well, Obama has been involved in politics since the 80's and Palin has been involved since the 90's (for starters)...Also, I think the question comes into light because if people question Obama's experience then you would naturally have to question Palin's since well Palin has less, not only in years but also when it comes to Washington and diplomatic relations...Of course, I don't really care who has more or less experience...I care more about their views...I don't agree with Palin on many things...It's just that simple my friend!!!

I'm sorry.. looks like you were one of 5 persons who might have missed Palin's "acceptance speech'..

I have no idea of what others heard, but what I heard was a vindictive and manipulative, self promoting pit bull. The CORNERSTONE of Palin's rant was "look at me, I have more experience than him". Is this a subtle indicator of her own intent? Since she is running for VP and not President, the whole juvenile comparison was ridiculous.

Gov Palin seems to believe that her title as Mayor and Gov are somehow proof of her capability. If you look around, at the many elected officials who are under investigation or indicted.. WHAT does it prove that she holds either of those titles?

Obama's resume and experience are easily found in hundreds of places online, if you don't know what they are. No.. they do not include being Gov or Mayor of anything. If you consider Palin's ridicule of elected officials and good old boys.. his LACK of being Gov is to his credit.

Prior to Palin's arrival.. Obama never needed to point out his experience..his focus was (and remains) on problems in this country, and efforts to do something about them.

http://www.adn.com/opinion/comment/story/295464.html

Despite claims that Alaskans "love" Palin, there is evidence to the contrary. Note the date.. before any question of Palin being VP.

Based on the above, her record of using dirty mockery, to insult opponents is standard procedure.

I won't even get into the stupidity of "you are nothing, look at me". MANY educated people in this country have the experience to understand that being an elected official of anywhere (never mind a town of 5000 people) DOES NOT make them qualified to run this country. In Palins case, I don't think it qualifies her as a decent human being.

YOU and millions of other people in this country got baited, to stoop to some asinine comparison of "who has more experience". And it worked. Trust me.. that is not a compliment to the mentality of the American voter.

I guess there is no simple answer except the only requirement for running for president is: You have to be 35 and a natural citizen. They both seem concerned but the proof will be in the pudding when one or the other gets into the elected office. And we will survive it.

As for the fall campaign, I am not urging anyone to vote for Obama, or against McCain, on the issue of experience. What I am saying is that experience itself is a slippery commodity to measure—that there is no easy way to guess what sort of political career is ideal for a president—and that we would all be better off just listening to what the candidates say and how they say it and more importantly what they will do about it.

For now, the most important issue is the economy. I'm willing to go with the new guy on the block. The old guy's policies are not working. He says his knowledge about economy is not his strong suit either.

During the years that Obama served in Springfield, 1997-2005, he was forced to wrestle with the minutiae of health-care policy, utility deregulation, transportation funding, school aid, and a host of other issues that are vitally important to America's coming years, but that U.S. senators are usually able to dispose of with a quick once-over. State legislators have to do this largely on their own, without ubiquitous staff guidance, because staffing is not lavish even in the more professional state capitols. They enter into day-to-day bargaining relationships over the details of legislation with colleagues of both parties; there is no one else to do it for them. At the end of the session, they are likely to know the strengths and quirks of nearly everyone who serves in their chamber. That would be Obama.

Twenty-first century U.S. senators are, virtually by the nature of the job, gadflies. They flit from one issue to another, generally developing little expertise on any of them; devote a large portion of their day to press conferences and other publicity opportunities; follow a daily schedule printed on a 3x5 card that a member of their staff has prepared; depend even more heavily on staff for detailed and time-consuming legislative negotiation that they are too busy to attend; and develop few close relationships with colleagues, nearly all of whom are as busy as they are. That would be McCain.

It's the culture war that drives their attacks. She stands for Middle America and the elites cannot stand that someone who espouses grass roots values has succeeded as Sarah Palin has. The elites Progressive agenda would be hitting a huge bump if Sarah Palin is elected VP. It would show that "the folks" don't approve of Hollywood values.

I'm sure there are many reasons why these people question Gov. Palin's experience. Hate, blind allegiance, following the crowd, following the intellectuals, following Hollywood elite.

There obviously is no way these hating followers can justify this.

I remember when being a Senator was a liability and being a Governor was an asset, when running for the Executive Office.
2008-09-15 10:14:21 UTC
I don't question Palin's experience I question Palin's judgment. The only reason her experience was questioned is because McCain supporters bashed Obama endlessly over his experience, which lead the Obama supporters to wonder why all the hypocrisy?

Thanks for the invite. Here you go:

-Obama passed legislation with Republican Senator Jim Talent to give gas stations a tax credit for installing E85 ethanol refueling pumps. The tax credit covers 30 percent of the costs of switching one or more traditional petroleum pumps to E85, which is an 85 percent ethanol/15 percent gasoline blend.

-After a number of inmates on death row were found innocent, Senator Obama worked with law enforcement officials to require the videotaping of interrogations and confessions in all capital cases.

-His first law was passed with Republican Tom Coburn, a measure to rebuild trust in government by allowing every American to go online and see how and where every dime of their tax dollars is spent.

-Obama created the Illinois Earned Income Tax Credit for low-income working families in 2000 and successfully sponsored a measure to make the credit permanent in 2003. The law offered about $105 million in tax relief over three years.

-Obama joined forces with former U.S. Sen. Paul Simon (D-IL) to pass the toughest campaign finance law in Illinois history. The legislation banned the personal use of campaign money by Illinois legislators and banned gifts from lobbyists. Before the law was passed, one organization ranked Illinois worst among 50 states for its campaign finance regulations.

-As a member of the Veterans' Affairs Committee, Senator Obama has fought to help Illinois veterans get the disability pay they were promised, while working to prepare the VA for the return of the thousands of veterans who will need care after Iraq and Afghanistan.

-He traveled to Russia with Republican Dick Lugar to begin a new generation of non-proliferation efforts designed to find and secure deadly weapons around the world.

-Obama has been a leading advocate for protecting the right to vote, helping to reauthorize the Voting Rights Act and leading the opposition against discriminatory barriers to voting.

- In the U.S. Senate, Obama introduced the STOP FRAUD Act to increase penalties for mortgage fraud and provide more protections for low-income homebuyers, well before the current subprime crisis began.

-Obama sponsored legislation to combat predatory payday loans, and he also was credited with lobbied the state to more closely regulate some of the most egregious predatory lending practices.

-Barack Obama introduced the Patriot Employer Act of 2007 to provide a tax credit to companies that maintain or increase the number of full-time workers in America relative to those outside the US; maintain their corporate headquarters in America; pay decent wages; prepare workers for retirement; provide health insurance; and support employees who serve in the military.

-Obama worked to pass a number of laws in Illinois and Washington to improve the health of women. His accomplishments include creating a task force on cervical cancer, providing greater access to breast and cervical cancer screenings, and helping improve prenatal and premature birth services.

-Obama has introduced and helped pass bipartisan legislation to limit the abuse of no-bid federal contracts.

-Obama and Senator Feingold (D-WI) took on both parties and proposed ethics legislation that was described as the "gold standard" for reform. It was because of their leadership that ending subsidized corporate jet travel, mandating disclosure of lobbyists' bundling of contributions, and enacting strong new restrictions of lobbyist-sponsored trips became part of the final ethics bill that was signed into law.

I don't question her experience. I question her stands on the issues.

I don't agree with her in many points. She doesn't believe that global-warming is caused by mankind, she is against abortion in case of rape and incest. She's not for equal pay for women. She practices animal cruelty. Obama isn't for all those issues.

I prefer brains, not experience.
