Question:
What's the probability that the next war/conflict will be partly fought on US soil?
2008-12-23 17:36:01 UTC
I know tensions are getting serious with Russia , China and Iran but honestly considering how the US and the EU are in tough situations I can see one of the three trying to step on to US land if there is a conflict. One example would be Russia's Putin having 'war game' exercises in Venezuela that required Russian war ships in the Caribbean.

Any thoughts? How will Obama handle this?

Personally, I think the probability of at least one battle being fought on US soil is good. Looking at 9-11-2001 as a battle similar to 12 - 07-1941 and just as much on US Soil.

With that is a given our New President Elect will do one of two things:

Option 1(most likely in my opinion) Piss down both legs and try to surrender unconditionally. Cabinet and staff will over-ride him with threat to announce he is ill and not fit to hold office and have Congress remove him. Threat will work and not be widely known for years. Cabinet will run war and like everything else done by committee do it poorly.

Option 2 He will freak totally out and order a nuclear strike on enemy forces in western hemisphere. Two man rule applies and Bidden will probably agree, War is over because whole world is stunned by response.

World then will try to impose military disarmament on USA. Obama will agree and 80 million American gun owners will rise against US Government.

@Komodo is right on some parts but on rest is wrong. The belief that the U.S won't be invaded is a false generosity. If a Third World War was to happen, the US would be up against 2 out of 3 of the worlds tri-supremacy. The US up against Russia and China will cause a massive confusion, not only that but the US also has the threats of the military and the naval arms of those nations. Not only that the threat of the factions allies. WWIII would mostly be a war between the communists, or anti-American nations vs US and the capitalist nations. So the belief that the US out of fighting 2 massive enemies, watching over its allies, fighting on different fronts, have massive casualties, and over the threat of nuclear arms, and homeland security, that the US won't have any room for an error, is a false ideal. The US soil can't be untouched forever, and if a massive war played out like WWIII the US will be invaded at some point. Most likely through an air drop, paratroopers will be the most effective way that US would be invaded. Some people would complain that we have the best air force but people forget, so does Russia. And with the combination of different attacks, diverting the troops to different locations, the chance of an invasion landing on our soil is a likable chance.

The probability is zero. Tell us how an invading party could stage a landing on our coastlines when we have nuclear weapons. Waiting.....;...

At the risk of being TOS'd for chatting... In a nuclear age, no one can get a foothold on America. First, any invading power would have to have air superiority. With the F-15, which has NEVER been defeated in air-to-air combat, we can totally control the air over a potential invasion sight. The F-15 doesn't stand a chance against our F-22s, and we would utilize them in a heartbeat. So, imagine several hundred landing craft heading for a desired beachhead in Northern California. One B-2 escorted by half a dozen F-22s fly over the landing craft and drops a thermonuke. NO LANDING CRAFT. THEY ARE VAPORIZED. And no one in the world can even come close to our F-22s. WE CONTROL THE AIR OVER ANY POTENTIAL BATTLEFIELD.

Now, if you are talking about a few terrorists doing something horrid, that's another story. We saw what could happen on 9-11. But that's not a conflict. That is terrorism, and requres a completely different approach to try to stop.

As of 9/11, war HAS been partly fought on U.S. soil. Call it terrorism or whatever you want, but an organized attack was delivered to the U.S. in new york, and the likelihood of it happening again, on a much bigger scale, appears increasingly likely, especially from Mexico. How will obama handle this?? He IS the next 9/11, or December 7th. He IS the next war fought on U.S. soil. God Bless you.

Now that Obama is going to be president, I think the probability that the next war/conflict will be partly fought on US soil is 100%. He has already said he plans to close down Gitmo and release all the prisoners there, including those who will have to be released here if no other countries agree to take them. He is pretty much setting the stage for a huge breach of homeland security.

The only real way for a real offensive to get started in the U.S. is for them set up base in Mexico and attack from that border. Luckily, the second they attack Mexico, the U.S. will a few dozen thousand troops to help out.

Or they could come up across the North Pole and invade Canada from the north. Same deal though, the U.S. and Canadian forces would have them stopped before they got past Nunavut. Either way, U.S. soil is pretty safe.

Considering modern radar and satellite technology along with the ridiculous arsenal of airplanes, bombs, ships, missiles and nukes we have, I would have to say good luck getting an invasion fleet across the ocean to get here.

What is Mexico or Canada going to start having skirmishes with us? Ha Ha! think about it. It isn't going to happen.

Watch out for the invasion of the Canadians! We are sending Jim Carey and John Candy to get you!

I think an all out war, fought on US soil is unlikely. Another terrorist attack is more likely to happen on US soil.

The only chance another war will be fought on the continental U.S. would be a civil war, any other war would be fought elsewhere.

That would depend on you definition of war...war in this country...no. Conflict...maybe. Our borders and ports are no safer today than they were 9/11. Quite an accomplishment, wouldn't you say? To do absolutely nothing.

Pretty high, when the majority of the population gets sick of Nobama's hatred of whites and decide they don't appreciate apartheid.

That's ridiculous. None of those countries could project military power onto American territory. And the Russians are welcome to play war games in any international waters they like.

I think there is a good chance.
