Because they like to really promote victimization. To the respondants who say people are too poor to obtain one, that is pure and simple BS, stop falling for the party lie.

It happens to be free in Indiana, what do you say now? They also have extended hours to assist people in getting an ID specifically for the primary, staying open until 8 p.m. on Monday and 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

I've been voting in the same area in my city here in FL since 1985 and have ALWAYS had to show a photo ID (Drivers License) at the poll or no ballot. I have no idea why anyone would be given a ballot who could not prove who they were. If that's the case, then I'll just take my dead relative's voter id cards and start voting to my hearts content!

I'm a democrat, and support the idea that people should provide ID in order to vote; this is a reasonable and important step to prevent voter fraud.

In today's world, there is no legitimate excuse to not have a valid Photo ID. You shouldn't even be able to cash a check, write a check card, use credit card, unless you can prove who you are.

Even if you loose your drivers license, as a result of a DUI, or if you never had a drivers license, or whatever; you can still get a state issued non-driver ID. They are cheap, probably cheaper than a 6-pk of beer, and you can usually get them on the same day you apply for one.

Some people may hesitate to get a photo ID. Certain criminals, for instance, drug dealers, often destroy their ID's, and adopt an alias. Those people want to avoid being identifies. Anyone with an active arrest warrant, might also be afraid to apply for an ID. Those who owe money to the child support police, might be afraid to get an ID.

The only valid reason I can think of for not having the ability to get an ID, is if you are homeless, and are unable to prove your residency. In cases like this, there are homeless shelters, social service professionals, and advocates who can assist homeless individuals. Voting is usually the least of their worries. Only a very small percentage of Americans will even have this problem, and even a smaller fraction would even want to vote. For those who do want to vote, there are people out there advocating for them so they are able to do so.

Other than that, I don't buy the argument that it's unreasonable to require personal identification in order to vote. Without ID, minors could try to vote, people could try to vote multiple times at different precinct locations. People have even tried to vote on behalf of people who are already deceased! Therefore, as a democrat, I'm 100% in favor of the ID requirement. I would assume that all Americans who want to see fair and accurate elections would be in favor of it also.

If you didn't drive because you didn't have a car, what kind of picture ID would you have?

Now, what would be the likelihood, since you only used it rarely, that it have your current address on it?

But it's not that the fact that they are requiring this, it's that they've done so with a timing that would make getting a picture ID very difficult in time for the primaries.

Keep in mind the judges who helped form the 6-3 majority decision are Bush appointees.

Because there are many poor people who don't have official state ID due to costs. When ruling for the voter ID, even the Supreme Court noted that the general cost of ID's is more than the poll taxes that took place to discriminate against the poor and minorities.

It's not really about supressing minorities and low income people. It is about trying to steal elections.

The dems like to push the envelope, tip the scales. It makes it more difficult to pull such things off with voter I.D.

It doesn't suppress anything except voter fraud.

That said the Dems like voter fraud since those expected to commit such offenses are likely to vote Dem - like illegal aliens and ex-convicts with felony convictions...

Why would Republicans who are for small government, support a plan for National identification Card? Is there really much difference between a voter card and a chip implant?

it doesn't suppress anyone except the dems ability to stuff the ballot box unchecked
2008-05-05 15:32:57 UTC
Because the promote voter fraud and an ID would block this.
2008-05-05 15:34:09 UTC
Because they don't have an ID or the means to get one.
2008-05-05 15:33:46 UTC
Because it'll make it harder for illegals and the dead to vote Democrat.

I dont.
