Question:
Why does Mr. McCain feel he has to 'suspend' his campaign?

From what I have seen/read; John McCain suspended his political campaign to work with congress to discuss the federal funding to help stabilize the economy.
Why does he have to suspend his campaign?
Can he not go to meetings and then speak to people about what's going on; his perspective or whatever??
Barack Obama seems to be able to do both.
Joe Biden will probably be at congressional meetings and campaign as well - or maybe he will just campaign for the Obama/Biden platform while Mr. Obama attends meetings -- get my point?
Where is Sara Palin? What will she be doing while the suspension is taking place? Why can't she campaign instead?

Because it was about to implode on itself anyway. He didn't have anything worth campaigning on in the first place. His rich wife is probably tired of footing the bill for him.

It's a gimmick. They have already said that his presents will slow down the process of getting this bill done not speed it up. What they need is the House Republicans willing to vote on the bill. They are the hold outs and from what I heard this AM they don't like McCain. As for having Palin continue to campaign for him, he doesn' t want to see his numbers continue to slide. If you saw her interview with Katie Couric you'd know why they are worried about having her out there anymore than necessary. She's supposedly media suave too since she's got a degree in Media Communications and was a Sports Castor. It's just sad to see McCain needing to pull yet another stunt to get attention again. Obama has been keeping in touch with Senators Dodd and Frank so he knows there is progress being made.

Because we're in the middle of an economical crisis and on the verge of another Great Depression--and McCain wants to HELP. Obama on the other hand just wants to continue with the election and get his seat in the White House. That's all he cares about.

And seriously, what's the big deal? (I mean in general) Why is it so hard for Obama to just wait to debate McCain until after our country isn't screwed up so bad? That's the question we should all be asking.

I agree McCain can not walk and chew gum at the same time it's something the next president will have to do on a daily bases. When John McCain held an unexpected news conference mid-Wednesday afternoon he addressed the current economic crisis with direness previously unseen. His campaign would be suspended, he told reporters, in order to work on the bailout legislation in Congress. The debate scheduled with Barack Obama on Friday night, he added, could be postponed.

Observers, critics, even fellow Republicans, were left wondering: where did this sense of urgency come from? After all, it was this past Sunday that McCain hinted on sunday new networks that he would support the bailout ,we have to stop the bleeding only to express deep criticisms on Monday and then admit he hadn't even read the three-page proposal on Tuesday.

I have not had a chance to see it in writing, said McCain . I have to examine it.

The move permeated with political opportunism an attempt by McCain to grab the leadership mantle he did not own and divert attention from poll numbers that were plummeting. On Wednesday morning a Washington Post-ABC poll had McCain trailing Obama 52 percent to 43 percent among likely voters. The internals were even worse: 54 percent of white voters with economic anxiety favored Obama.

As of yesterday, Congress appeared set against voting for this legislation as it was presented by Bush's team. Now there is a scramble at the top to get this legislation passed pronto. McCain suspending his campaign is supposed to frighten us into acquiesience. We are supposed to get the message that this crisis is bigger than everyone thought, and the only way out is to immediately pass this unconstitutional legislation this week...Besides, Bush promised the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, that this bailout WILL happen.

Because he isn't prepared! The people in Iraq can't susupend this pointless war because things aren't going their way!! So why does he get to suspend his campaign at ever turn. First is was for the war, then for Sept. 11, and now for this! Who is McCain kidding??? We are just mindless zombies! We see right through your polictical ploy!! Plus, what is McCain going to do??? He has already said he doesn't understand economics, addition to the fact that he thought the economy was "fundamentally" sound. Wake up people! McCain is not ready to be anybody's President!!!
2008-09-25 05:35:07 UTC
He still on the payroll of the Senate and a sitting senior member with a proven history of getting things done with bi-partisan support. Anyway, have you been paying attention? We are at a very serious place with our economy. VERY SERIOUS. As our market goes, so does the worlds.

Obama seems more concerned with holding a debate on time, McCain seems more concerned with holding off a potential financial disaster of global proportions.

To give him credit, Obama is probably smart enough to realize this problem is above his pay grade and experience and he is staying out of the way. He could really show his ignorance and say something incredibly stupid that would cost him the election in a single 5 second sound bite.

To work with congress to discuss the federal funding to help stabilize the economy.

Barack Obama is giving this no attention while he continues to campaign. This should come as no surprise since no one can find evidence he's ever done much other than campaign. His own claim to experience is campaigning.

You aren't seeing Sara Palin campaign. She's doing it and drawing the same size of crowds that "proved" Obama is the messiah. Major media doesn't show you this because the more she's covered the better she polls.

If SARAH PALIN is SO qualified and JOHN SO BUSY

He can't chew gum and think at the same time. He has to go back and talk to BUSH/CHENEY so THEY CAN TELL HIM WHAT TO DO!

I know I don't want to give them a dime. Oh btw if they pass this deal and McCain got elected, OUR TAXES, are the ONLY ONES that are going to go UP. McCain has promised he will continue the same polices and make them PERMANENT.

1 trillion dollars so far and it is ALL ON US AND THEY GOT IT.

I don't know what ppl are looking at BUT this is highway robbery.

John McCain has proved again that he is the candidate to lead this country for the next 8 years. He puts this country and our economy ahead of any damn debate.

And Obama wants no part of saving our economy, thats not very presidential in my book.

Johnny McPA-IN is on the run from Obama. It's called avoidance.

Obama said that they both should be able to do more than one thing at a time, after all, they're running for President. McPA-IN can barely talk and hold on to his ring at the same time. Ever notice his nervous gesture where he's playing with his wedding ring whenever he's out in public?

Forget McPA-IN2, they don't want her out talking without supervision. Johnny hopes he can cancel that altogether. On national TV? In a debate? That would be a disaster for them and they know it.
2008-09-25 05:28:31 UTC
so he is doing senatorial stuff for the last year rather than campaign stuff. I don't think so. This is a simple and transparent ploy to delay the VP debate and to - at the same time - make us stupid voters think that he can really make a difference in one day in DC. I think that the people who got us into this mess will put up a panic bill to temporarily fix the problem as proposed by Paulson. Who need McCain in DC at this time, who knows as much about the economy as I do - which is precious little.

Well it doesn't benefit John McCain Presidential candidate to suspend his campaign to help deal with this national crisis in a bipartisan manner. I guess it benefits John McCain American citizen.

I think it is about seeming to take the moral high ground by putting the 'needs of the nation' before petty party politics. In reality it's a major campaign strategy and probably a vote winner.
2008-09-25 05:27:27 UTC
He can't handle being bombarded with the issues at hand, and his lies are blowing up in his face. He's running for cover.

This is just a tactic to try and disarm the Democrats while they have the higher ground in the campaign battle.

Mc Cain has sent memos to his people to campaign, while he single handedly fixes the Economy, even though he has never been into Economics. He is trying to trick us into believing he doesn't care about the election as much as he cares about the country, but we are immunized to that.

Obama has NEVER done his job in the Senate. All he has EVER done is campaign, so it is understandable that he still wants to. Only an idiot would think that is more important than solving this crisis.

wow, just like an Obamabot to parrot the liberal media, and your messiah Obama. and Obama can't do both, all he can do is pretend to do both while actually doing nothing at all. just like his senate career.

because McCain can is the answer your probably not looking for. but at least the libs can't report me for not providing an answer.

I think his campaign is running out of money...each day he doesn't go on the road is money he saves. I also think he assumed Obama would follow his lead ...that back fired. McBail has hurt his position with the undecided vote on this one.

It's really dramatic. He can't walk and chew gum at the same time. He did graduate at the bottom of his class. It matters. It shows his commitment, discipline, determination, and work ethic.

It's a tactical decision. If debates he will lose badly and if he allows Palin yo debate she'll lose badly. Tactically, there's nothing in it for him. He believes that the effect of not debating will be less than if he debates. He believes it will blow over. Bet your last money, he doesn't show. Diabolical move. don't you think?

It's Senator McCain, not Mr. McCain

And he still has a job to do, which isn't running for president.

Since nObama never did his job in the first place, running for president is no CHANGE for him and his daily routine.

Ah, country FIRST, politics later. We have a situation that is serious and needs tending too. Besides, you liberals should be jumping for joy as Obama lost big time the last time they met in Orange county as he stuttered and mummbled his way thru that forum.
