Question:
Do you support United Nations oversight of our presidential elections?

There have been well documented abuses of the system, to the point of being an international embarrassment. The US president has a huge influence over the rest of the world. Why not allow the UN to be of some help in making sure our elections are fair and honest?

Given the sad state of American democracy at the moment. I'd say that the idea of bringing in UN observers is not such a bad one! However that isn't a long term solution. What needs to happen is for the federal government to legislate so that there are uniform electoral laws and voting processes in each state. It is no good if one state relies on a paper ballot, another on computerised voting and another on punch card voting, all with different rules and regulations.

The change to ensure that your president is elected fairly needs to come from the people. You need to demand a change and you need to see good laws put in place to protect the right of the US to elect whoever they want. Just as long as it is a fiar, balanced and democratic system, the rest of the world will be happy.

Good God no! I think the United Nations is ineffective and I can't even begin to imagine how long it would take them to make the decision - I bet it would be months and months. Also just who within the United Nations would make the decision. We have enemies there. And if they did oversee our elections what about their overseeing everyone else. What a nightmare. We may have our problems but they're nothing compared to the problems we'd have with the UN's nose in our business as well.

No I do not support such an act????

I even hate it when we meddle in other countries affairs. Look at it this way when there was a great tragedy in our country (slaves) we had a civil war over this. When people are good and tired of a government that suppresses them they will revolt it has happened through out history time and time again. By getting involved it just makes things worse. It also doesn't allow the people to live in the cultural environment of there choosing. Democracy all over the world will never work for this very reason.

We Americans are too arrogant to allow the UN to oversee our elections we think we are better than everyone else. I would welcome campaign and election oversight. Had we had this in 2000, 2004 the history of the world would have been much different.

We'd still be dealing with Saddam in power, but we'd have over 4,000+ of our military still alive and healthy not to mention the 20,000+ military that have been maimed and injured and we'd have a trillion bucks we could have spent in this country rather than fighting a war in iraq.

I'm voting for McCain and yes I'd like to see the UN oversee this election. After what happened in Florida last time, and what's already happening in New York and Georgia this time, we obviously can't be trusted to run our own election.

Farrakhan Lauds Obama's 'sparkling attitude' to Politics and replaced into commemorated by Obamas Church. even if, nonetheless no longer something stated by Obama of what ameliorations will be made and no proposals to deliver any change into coverage. Obama's candidacy is about collecting black Votes and by no ability coverage or topics.

I would not support the UN overseeing a 3rd Grade Fall Festival Queen vote. Somebody needs to oversee the UN.

I don't think any country should allow any outside group to interfere with elections. That's what makes them free elections and not a UN-friendly shoo-in.

First

The UN is a farce..the US should just pull out and tell them to move

the HQ out of the US and then get out of NATO as it is not helping the

US

The UN is just a debate society that the US is losing ~P

Why do we pander to Euro and Russia?

The Iraq war and the one in Afghanastan just ignored the UN and made

them look very pathectic. Most of the world ignores the UN sanctions

After Bush stole the White House we need some oversight.
2008-10-27 03:00:48 UTC
ABSOLUTELY NOT!

I agree that there have been problems. ACORN is particularly troubling but bringing in anyone as corrupt as the UN is not the way to fix them. In my opinion, we are already too entangled with them.

If you want some kind of neutral international observers to serve as a type of referee then that might work but it should be a small group of US Allies and not the UN.

Yet another example of what liberals are doing to our country. Thank you ACORN, thank you Obama and thank you Obama supporters.

Yes, I think that would be a great idea. Especially after the Republican putsch of November 2000!
