Question:
Have you changed parties in the past 8 years?
2008-05-14 23:12:38 UTC
I was a Republican. but the last eight years have been so bad for most American and damaging to the image the world has of America.

Don't get me wrong I loved the tax cuts and rebates, but I will gladly give them up if it meant a reversal of today's chaotic situation

I was angered by the GOP's policies that allowed the mortgage crisis to exist. And how they quickly moved to save the greedy banks, whose top management are too greedy to see the stupidity of their actions.

So the GOP favored rescuing these speculators, injecting cash into the economy and creating inflation, over the regular people. Nevertheless the market faultered and in the process they screwed us all, everything has gone up.

Thousands of lives have been lost fighting a war that we should not have been in and to which an end is not probable.

What do you think? Am I justified to have changed parties? Am I wrong for wanting change and asking for things to be done differently on Main street?

yep, yep, yep... i grew up in a politically divided house, but leaned toward the republican side of the house since my mom always had me go w/ her, while she was out getting people registered to vote. i joined the military and was all about them giving us raises, but now, im out of the military and seeing things differently... i want this war to be OVER, i want a stable, good paying job, i want the country to feel whole again, and a slew of other things. id like to say that im not really for a party, but just for a change... VOTE OBAMA!

This is America were you are suppose to have the right to follow what ever your political belief is without reprisal. In politics a general rule of power politics is that you do not honor a treaty that ceases to benefit you. America has broken every nuclear armament treaty it has signed with USSR. The Government broke most of the treaties it signed with the native Indians form sea to shining sea. What I am getting at is if your political party is not serving your best interest and that of the nation. You would be foolish to support it. Especially in a country that allows so many parties to choose from.

President Reagan was a Democrat party member who said at a Convention during the 1950's that the worst thing that could happen to this country is to have a Republican president. By the 70's he switched parties and ran for president as a Republican candidate. I heard people say that he did not leave the party the party left him. Which could have very well been the case. Change is a constant, and a political party's mandate, platform, ideology, and mission are no exception.

Do what you feel is right by the feelings in your bones. Might as well take advantage of the political freedom you have left. It can not hurt, you can switch back if it is not what you were looking for. Who will you know if you do not try. I will tell you this, if you do, it will head you on a path of being an independant thinker. The more perspective view points and info you expose yourself to the more of a political intellectual citizen you become. The Super Elites worst nightmare.

Hope what ever party you settle into that it works out for you.

I voted Republican the last 8 years and am voting Democratic this year. Perhaps not a straight ticket maybe some GOP in local races, but the higher offices all Dem.

I followed the Republicans enough to realize there needs to be a major switch in the way things are run. I have worked for corporations and see how they screw over their workers. My family and friends have had medical problems and were screwed over from the medical, insurance and pharmaceutical industries. Then the whole business in Iraq. I went with the evidence of weapons. Then I realized it was over oil.

And then they really have no significant environmental policy. that is become a very crucial issue and not one to ignore.

So I have switched parties.

I have been a Republican for as long as I can remember. I too am so disillusioned with my party. I can't stand the way they spend money. I mean, that is what the Dems do! I may go Independent but I will never go Democrat. They are a bunch of mind numbed robots who aren't allowed to think for themselves. Dems talk noble but you have to watch what they do not listen to what they say. They care for control and their party. Everything else is way down the list.

Whatever you are so on point... I felt like they were rallying up the klan to go lynch them some Obama.... I wasn't going to watch the RNC but decided that I should open to hear both sides... and let me tell you I did not get a good feeling... But you have hit the nail on the head... The whole RNC thus far was boring and forced...you saw people yawning and falling asleep...

Yes ,I was (R) now I'm an Independent who hates the Dems more now because they wont admit that they supported the Free Trade Agreements that sent 3 million jobs overseas. PS the agreements were signed by Bill Clinton

You have to do what makes sense to you. If your party doesn't cut it anymore don't vote for their candidate. Switch parties if you have to.

I registered independent at 18 but switched to D in 2004 when I realized my state holds a closed primary. That's a much easier switch than crossing the aisle from R to D.

Changed from independent to dem to vote in the primary.

I first read this as have you changed panties in the past 8 years? Funny!

I've been a Dem since I registered three years ago. Welcome to the party. I hope we can all be proud when we put a Democrat back in the White House.

I have been a Democrat longer than you have been alive but if Obama gets the nomination this Democrat will leave the party all together and become a Republican
