I'm black so this is not a race thing, but this fool has to be one of the worst Mayors in the history of the US and he gets re-elected? The murder rate is 10 times the US average, what were they thinking?

I have no idea. I hope that it isn't the norm in Louisiana elections as I feel that he and Governor Blanco should never get re-elected. Maybe alot of people didn't see what was going on during the coverage after Katrina because they were in shelters etc. I sure wasn't expecting him to win. He did not stand up for his people, he was in a plush high rise hotel with food from room service while there were thousands stuck at the Superdome with a shortage MRE's. Some people think that he stood up to President Bush, but that is not the person he should have stood up to, it should have been the Governor as she was responsible for the state and didn't know what she was doing! Now, a year later, it still looks like a war zone because his city has not been cleared of debris. There has been plenty of money sent, but it hasn't been used properly. He has no control over his city, the national guard and state police have even had to come in to help law enforcement.

Proves that there is an idiot born every minute & a lot voted in their mayor's race. We had people who live in our state that got to vote & they have no intention of moving back. Or so they told me - so why did they care when they voted.

I do not think they were thinking but feeling only. Longing for

old times can cause people to vote without thought.

Ask the people living in and around New Orleans. Compared the guy running against him, Nagin was easily the best choice. What you see in the national media are carefully selected sound bites to get ratings. You have to see what the national media doesn't care about to get the whole story.

I strongly believe that Ray Nagin should be prosecuted for negligence for his part in the Katrina blunder along with Mike Brown, Governor Blanco and maybe even that man named Bush. All of them should be ashamed for what happened in the worst disaster in US history and the roles they played in it. I think he got re-elected because he didn't really have anybody to run against. Who would want to be mayor of the Big Easy? All that mess you have to fix, no way!!!!! He can have that job!!!!

I don't know, I'm not black, I'm Irish decent. However I served 21 years in the Navy, I know what it means to be one.

I think one only has to compare N.O. to Mississippi which received 1/4 or less the federal money to realize who is competent who is not. Remember Miss was hit directly.

I say it's not the government's job to repair your house.

Look at san fran in early 1900's (besides martial law which the Army did shoot looters) Or Chicago, or Galveston. They built themselves up on their own boot strings. Like Miss is now..and N.O is not......Get off the Govt's Nipple and do it.

Nagin's opponent had lousy ideas for New Orleans recovery. It included selling off people's land to big businesses.

i don't believe it, no offense to you but a lot of black people would think that since it is mostly a black city or in Nagen's words a "chocolate" city, they need a black mayor to "represent"

i don't see how someone that has made so many terrible comments, or agreed with them can be allowed to be mayor.

ex. "President Bush does not care about black people"

everyone knows that that isn't true, everyone that has any kind of education that is.

Because he played the race card and the blame Bush for everything card.

But yes I could not believe anyone with any mental ability would vote for him, I was shocked.

It proves that anyone can get elected. so honestly they are getting what they deserve with him.

There has already been so many stories of corruption from his administation.

come to think of it, the NO residents might be thinking differently.by the way i am black too and i don't think your question is racist. People don't get voted out just because the rate of murder in their constituency is higher than that of the US, he has to be a great disservice to his people to be voted out.

he is not any worst than the President

He demonstrated leadership and the willingness to stand up to the president after Katrina. Look at his opposition.

He was better than the white guy, who wanted his friends to steal all of the land.

Enough people who believe in Ray Nagin voted for him.

Perhaps people there were inspired by the re-election of war criminal Bush!
