Question:
Did you know the main reason that the Dems want to start up the "Fairness Doctrine"?

It started because their attempt to legalize all 20 million illegal aliens a year or two failed because of all the emails and faxes and phone calls that congress got from angry citizens. It was a huge topic on talk radio. The Democrats did not like the fact that people were telling them what to do and that the people were more powerful than them. It shut the bill down. Now they wish to stifle free speech - a power grab and a hideous un American action. What do you think?

Yea, we were pretty amazing, huh? Thank God we caught and squelched Diane Feinstein's sneak attack! That was pretty ******* low of her, attaching it to a bill that was meant to send aid to the troops in Iraq!

It is very un-American. We all should be concerned, liberals and conservatives alike.

Josh, I am Native American and I say NO to the "fairness doctrine" and NO amnesty for illegal aliens!" I guess that solves that. ;P

I am surprised that Republicans would be against it. It is basically a party that wants to go back to an earlier time when white protestants ruled the country.

You could have government sponsored nativity scenes in the town square because it would not offend anybody?

Remember the truth in advertising act when you could not say it on TV unless it was true?

Remember when we could have a political election without their being riots, because people have whipped up into frenzies by lies.

Remember when television shows were censored and clergy approved.

Seems to be the Republican platform. Why would you want to make one exception to allow conservative talk show entertainers to lie?

Do you think that the popularity of conservative political talk shows is because so many people believe what they say? It is because the opinions are so simple and require so little thought. Complicated nuanced positions that recognize there is no one solution for any problem do not lend themselves to 2 or 3 minute sound bytes between commercials and ordering a Big Mac while driving around.

Its because Air America failed, and suddenly they find that they cannot control the content on talk radio.

You implement the fairness doctrine, and now they have a way to control the topics on talk radio.

Thus limiting freedom of speech, once the government mandates the subjects of what people talk about.

Democrats don't want to bring back the Fairness Doctrine. That's a huge talking point on right wing talk radio, but they made the whole thing up. Nada. Zip.

Ask a politician, they want nothing to do with it. The Democrats overwhelmingly voted it down last time it came up.

The people who protest the loudest are often trying to cover the fact that they themselves are trying to do what they claim others are doing. Right wing talk radio is trying to silence progressive voices, which, as you say, is a power grab and a hideous un-American action.

Right-wing talk radio needs to maintain the subterfuge that they are under attack. Otherwise, their listeners might find out that others disagree, and that it's possible to have a legitimate difference of opinion without being considered a demon.

Pelosi knows nothing. She doesn't even know what she said last week. I can't believe they keep voting her in.

Well, of course, the "Fairness Doctrine" is about stifling free speech. If the Dem's had their way, they'd quash the entire Bill of Rights, confiscate your entire pay check, use some of it to put you in a housing project, and use the rest to fund parties and champagne for their "elite" friends.

Yep liberals have a great fear of dissent and it really pisses off the politicians that we have another source of information visa vie talk radio - so they are going to try their best to have it shut down because they know that the sponsors will not place ad on leftie radio that no one wants to listen to (air america for example)

When was the last time you heard Bush talk about CNN, ABC, etc?

But you hear Barry make comments about Sean Hannity, Rush and FOX news, I know he likes to say he doesn't support the Fairness Doctrine but his own words seem to represent the exact opposite.

The Fairness Doctrine should be law with no questions asked. There is no such thing as an "Illegal Immigrant". Had immigration not been allowed in the early 20th century you (assuming that you are not Native American) would not even be here right now and America would not be the great nation it is today. The more and more we oppress certain unalienable rights that we set forth in the Dof I the more we destroy ourselves. We should learn to live with others not oppress them.

Liberals have always been afraid of the truth and want to shut up the truth tellers like Rush and Sean. Liberal talk shows have always tanked because rational and educated people know it ia all BS.

I love the person here who says it's not just the liberals who support the "fairness doctrine," since John McCain co-sponsored it. OF COURSE HE DID! He's attacked as much as anyone else on conservative talk radio, so of course he would join the liberals in wanting to stifle them.

LOL To get rid of FOX, have to say it because

of all the posting about that channel. Never

mind how many liberal channels there are.

I would not be surprised though if they try to

get rid of Glen Beck, Rush and etc. though.
why try ?

The first thing Hitler did was to take control of the media ! If you hear the same thing from every outlet it soon becomes easier to believe what you hear!

True, . the liberals are not content with owning the newspapers, print media, school curriculum and TV. They are trying desperately to silence all opposition to their platform. Radio and religion are two meeting places of ideas that at this time they cannot control. So we are seeing an all out war on both.

No their desire to bring back the Fairness Doctrine goes back to the 1990s. They have been pushing more and more for it since then.

The only time the Dem's believe in free speech is when they agree with the speaker. How hypocritical.

That's because liberal radio is "in the tank" while conservative radio is prospering, so liberals want to move into Conservative radio programs.

Ummmm..........are you aware that John McCain cosponsored that bill with Ted Kennedy and George W. Bush supported it?

Absolutely right. Liberals have no tolerance for freedom of speech, especially when that speech goes against their interest.

Unfortunately for liberals, that happens every time anyone knows the facts of an issue.

And who stifled free speech more in the last 8 years....the Bush Admin so don't go and blame it on just Dems.
